There arent many of them! Analysis I saw said medics fared no worse than most others in this epidemic. Problem with this virus is people are assuming it has hardly started and many many more might die. Whereas the evidence I see is that the bulk of the disease in the Uk is over...it does not include nurses who suffer long term health problems from contracting the virus. Nor does it include the Doctors, Paramedics or others who die to keep the dream the Dandelions of the world have alive.
In March government took advice to lock down because of advice that 2 million people would be admitted to hospital and half a million die. The reality was less than 100,000 admitted to hospital over several months (so not all at once as suggested) and around 50,000 died, most of them already old and sick and living in care homes. The predicted community epidemic DID NOT HAPPEN, AND HAS NEVER HAPPENED ANYWHERE AROUND THE WORLD. The number of deaths in care homes was to a very large extent dependent on how well these places took precautions, and therefore were preventable, but lockdown for everyone else didnt help them.
The action taken against covid was justified based on what it was feared it might do, not on what it does do. What it has done is a rather bad flu season, but not beyond what would be acceptable and would not justify all the measures taken. People are dying right now and will continue to die for years because of the economic cost which will mean in future they dont get treatment (because of the coming recession they wont have the money), and because they have not had treatment while all this goes on. It was a choice to take this slowly instead of quickly, but slowly increases both the death toll and economic cost all the time.
