Wasn't there a Star Trek episode about such a thing.. a planet with no disease but became so overcrowded they needed to kill off most of the population by a highly communicable disease? The crowed would show up in a window every now and then.. Of course, Kirk was up to the task...

Alternative facts. Fake news. Hoax. Witch hunt. Obama. Hillary. Hunter Biden.

So he was tested Friday night, and the tests take up to 24 hours for a regular Joe. I'm sure the US President could pull a few strings to expedite if he really wanted... My guess? He's riddled with it from visit to Mar-a-Largo...

"let’s take a look at the response of several cities during the 1918 influenza pandemic.

"Cities that began interventions earlier had significantly lower peaks of ... mortality. And cities that implemented four or more interventions had a lower median peak weekly death rate ...

"What was the effect (of social distancing)? The 14-day difference in response time between the two cities represents approximately 3-5 doubling times for the epidemic"

Sounds like the UK is going to finally ban mass gatherings next week. And the US is finally waking up, despite Donnie trying to ignore it and hope it would go away.

The US has been so far outpaced by other countries grappling with the pandemic. GOP Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma, usually an ally of Trump, told CNN that the President "should stop saying" that anyone can get a COVID-19 test if they want one.

Just a point in this, as it goes towards the innate exceptionalism felt by many British and Americans. Exceptionalism can be a powerful tool, but it can also be a source of very dangerous hubris if left unchecked.

In particular, the virus does not care about your feeling of exceptionalism.

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, an international team of researchers ranked the best and worst nations based on access to healthcare, and the quality of it, in 2016. The results were published in the Lancet.

The UK did not make the top ten, just FYI, irrespective of how proud you might be of the NHS.

If the UK response is mistimed vis-a-vis the greater European response, then you'll either be reinfected by Europe or be the ones doing the reinfection. An isolated small island go-it-alone response will simply not cut it.
Italy is the no. 9 ranked country. South Korea and Taiwan who did better so far rank as numbers 25 and 34 respectively. So the rank alone doesn't tell much about how a healthcare system is prepared for this specific pandemic.

The US has been so far outpaced by other countries grappling with the pandemic. GOP Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma, usually an ally of Trump, told CNN that the President "should stop saying" that anyone can get a COVID-19 test if they want one.
The number of people tested varies a lot between countries. Of course, if the US don't test much their numbers might appear better than they actually are. South Korea tested almost 200,000 people so I'd trust their statistics more than those US numbers.

"three people familiar with the matter" Jesus Christ :joy:
"“We only have five people. Hopefully, everything's going to be great,” he said on Jan. 30. A few days later, he said, “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.” Jesus Christ :joy:

Dunning Krueger.

Donald Trump lies, all the time, about everything. Right-wing media and Republicans back him up on these lies. Most of his voters don’t care if he lies because it’s "sticking it to the liberals".

The problem is the thousands who will die due to his administration's inaction. Testing should have happened weeks ago. The US figures are easily an order of magnitude lower than they should be.

Jan 22, “We have it totally under control,” Trump told CNBC. “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine." :joy:

Thick as a brick!!

Poor old Donnie is not getting it all his own way. Is he looking especially
I don't plan on getting tested. $110.00 office visit, unknown cost for the test. forget it.

My office visits are free (Medicare and comprehensive supplement) and will ask for the test if I feel symptoms, or if the Doctor tells me to take it regardless due to other risk factors.

As I said in another post open borders and progressives deserve the blame, every fucking speck.

“ Be like Europe!” dumbass progressives said. “Trump fucked this up!” screamed progressives.

Only social democracies Italy, Spain, France, Germany are way worse off than America.

I'm going to get a big tub of hot-buttered popcorn and wait with baited breath for these results. :D:D:D

They are the only people who want this to get worse simply because it might negatively affect Trump's reelection chances. So creepy.

You don't know how bad you have it because you weren't testing!!! :joy:

Your figures are as useless and untrustworthy as those from Russia and Iran.

Don't worry, the US will catch up as soon as they're able to test more!

Also, Germany has only 8 deaths opposed to 55 deaths in the US despite having more cases (4,525 vs. 2,499). I prefer having less dead people but that may be just me.

Exactly, this is so much more about lives saved than anything else.
