My impression is the US is well behind the UK, so if he is talking about the US, then I think he is rather optimistic. In the UK there is at least the possibility we might be getting a decline in a month. Be quite a while before it goes back to normal though

@dandelion. What is being communicated in the UK? There appears to be the ignoring of certain precautions to be taken. Or even the cutback of service to help drive change.

The London transport system has been a joke run by the idiot Mayor Khan. He reduced to Sunday service and cut carriage numbers but London houses a lot of hospitals and clinics, staff need to travel and they are being forced onto these crowded trains to get to work. I believe he is being instructed to restore service and add more carriages per train so people can spread out and maintain recommended distances.

I’m kinda shocked, as we’re obsessed with keeping social distance in this country as a means to hopefully control the virus. That seems like a major breach in the process to contain the spread.

And there is the debate. And we should have that debate.
No, it’s not a debate. Someone’s business is not worth killing people. The restaurant owner is not going to die because his restaurant was closed by quarantine order. He won’t starve to death. Hopefully he can pick up the pieces when this is over. If not, he will still be alive to try again or try a different trade.

The same thing happened in Massachusetts. On the first day we were asked to remain home, the mass transit changed to a weekend schedule making every train full. It was quickly remedied the next day. Now they even have extra trains and buses that coordinate with hospital shifts so medical workers can commute to work on very uncrowded trains.

That a bogus position. You are dead wrong. It is absolutely correct of Trump to question how long we are going to crush our economy to fight CV. That is a question that must be asked and debated. That question is being debated everywhere and Trump gave it a public voice.

Anyone can virtue signal, it is easy. Try telling a restaurant owner that his life’s dream must be destroyed to help out.
You must love death and $$$ like Trump

I get it. It takes a couple of days to get into a routine. I have a friend who is a nurse and she said she was the only passenger in her car yesterday. But I heard from a colleague in London that the subway issue has been going on for a while.

A more stringent form of “safer at home” began today—tentatively for a month—so a Trump Easter will not be happening. I did go out briefly to do some “essentials” and noticed that bus service still continues but with fares waived and entry from the back door only. It’s like a ghost town but better to be safe. Seeing as I am an Island of blue in a sea of red, I am surprised that this is being observed seeing as the wisdom from their omniscient “precedent” contradicts that. I suspect that Donnie may be losing his hold here. He still owes thousands for one of his ego rallies a year ago—money that could have been better spent on the community as opposed to indulging a moron.

It's crazy and London is so overcrowded anyway that it MUST have resulted in cross infection.

You should be shocked.

There is no viable alternative to the underground for travel in London. We need the underground running to get essential workers to their jobs. The physical structure of London is such that it is inconceivable to put them in cars - the streets just cannot take the numbers.

We have done what can be done to reduce the numbers travelling. Underground trains typically run at a two minute interval. At the start of the week Khan reduced these to every four minutes. Today on some routes he has reduced it to every ten minutes. The result is our doctors, nurses and essential workers are jammed on platforms and in trains with absolutely zero space. It's actually been worse than the usual rush hour crush.

And Khan is not going to change.

The result is that the London underground is an incubator for Coronavirus. While most of the country is doing everything possible to keep at a distance, Khan has engineered the greatest possible crowding. Let's be blunt - people will die as a result.

London transport is controlled by the Mayor of London, so Khan. It is desperately hard to know how this power can be taken away from him.

I’ve been to London several times. I love the city. I love the underground.

I’m aware that stringent rules have been put into place to limit cars coming into the city during peak times. I can tell you Manhattan and other cities in the US have become virtual ghost towns, with little car traffic. Is it not possible for London to limit auto traffic to those healthcare workers traveling into the city? In addition, couldn’t the buses facilitate travel around the city, and from certain points as well, with restricted traffic?
