I sometimes post craigslist ads of this type if I'm interested in chatting to someone local, and have never had trouble getting responses. As others have mentioned, it helps if you write more than one or two lines!

Only very rarely, however, do I find myself actually interested in meeting a correspondent. A certain kind of ad will attract a certain type of response, so if you're actually looking to meet someone, be prepared.
