What's up with the extreme LPSG server instability the last few days?

Aaah, so it's not just me - timeouts and not available errors, odd duplicate posts or post failues? At first I thought it was my net connection.

I've noticed it the past few weekends, actually. It usually happens between midnight and five o'clock in the morning. Which really sucks, 'cause late at night on the weekends is when I most enjoy visiting LPSG.

I lost a long post for a new thread I was trying to start today. Been having problems for the last week or so too, glad to hear it's not just me.

I have not received Pms and people have not gotten things I sent. I had two people today ask me if I was angry with them! LOL!

I'd been having problems with an old wonky cable modem and traded it in last week for a new one. Have still had some issues with being kicked out of chat and posts not posting. It's irritating but good to know the problem may not be on my end.

Likewise, I find there are generally problems when the site is least busy, during what are the small hours of the morning in the States.

    Yeah, I get the same.

Could be a backup running in the wee hours.

    Bingo.

Whenever I encounter a problem like this on LPSG - I had these timeout issues quite often during the US 'late night' last year, and they've been really bad tonight - by hitting the back button in firefox I return to the message typing screen with what I wrote fully intact.

Just a suggestion, as I couldn't imagine the frustration that would occur if I lost an entire post. Especially considering how wordy I get at times.

Handy tip for you. I do it all the time, here and with web based email etc.

Copy the contents of your post/email to the clipboard just before you click 'Submit Reply'. Just click inside the editor box, hit Ctrl-A to select all, then (Ctrl-C) or Edit>Copy to put it on the clipboard. That way if it bombs out, you can go back and paste it in and try again.

Not all browsers will keep the post you're working on, Firefox will, IE often won't.

    Saves much anguish.

Just had a 5 minute blip.

Site unavailable then back then gone and now back. I don't think it's a server problem seems more like a routing or other network issue. Almost impossible to tell from here.

Yes, it's been a rollercoaster ride all night for me, too. Alas, I'm off to bed. I hope whatever it is won't be this way all the time.
