Seriously though, I wasn't much older than some of my students when I started, some were older than me and many were my age. All I would say to students is don't act on it, if you need help in other parts of your life then there will be a way to get that.
I really loved teaching, and still see some former students socially, and professionaly, that's all though. I find them all delightful. Students are vulnerable, often stresssed, away from home the first time, and in a new town with little support. I did help them with advice when they came to me, often they were referred to me because I had a reputation for being very professional.
When I was a student I did have a long term relationship (more than 10 years) with an academic, but he was in a different department, and I was never enrolled in any of his courses.
As for my response to the question, I always thought the professor from Gilligan's Island was hot. That was after my Donny Osmond phase!
