is the guadeloupean drum and playing this drum generally is a good way to remember the african ancestors...
gwo ka can be associated with the martinican bèlè drum... even if there is differences between them and the way to play them...
in martinique the african derived drum played an important role in the end of slavery in 1848... as a slave called romain played its beat while his plantation owner had strictly forbiden the use of this instrument...
as a consequence romain had been put in jail... which initiated an important slaves revolt which led the french governor of the island to prematurely stop the african people enslavement... while the process imagined by the french government should have been slower and more progressive...
