She: "Hi, Handsome!"
He: (Bursts into tears at not being called cute)
She: (to friend) "Wow, this cute guy I just said hi to just suddenly cried."
Friend: "Maybe he doesn't know the difference between handsome and cute. Was he good looking?"
She: "Totally fuckable!"
Friend: "Handsome? Cute? Good-looking? Fuckable? Which is it?!?"
Us: "Oh for God's sake, shut the hell up."

For me personally, I prefer the term cute. I don't use the word handsome, typically. If I describe a guy I am into as cute, this means I find him good-looking in the general sense and personally attractive to me physically/sexually.

I'm the same way! It's incredibly rare for me to use the word "handsome" even if I think it's fitting. Handsome sounds too formal to my ear. It reminds me of the language of fairy tales. I almost always use the word cute instead.

Posting up images of cute animals is irrelevant to whether or not it means that a cute man is one that I want to have sex with. Considering the fact that the two Google searches I posted were so close to each other when those words are applied to MEN, it would appear that most people who use English also agree with me, since the Google algorithm is based upon usage, not prescriptive dictionary definitions.

I knew there were people and girls out there that think like I do! ;D Yay!

Cute man just sounds strange to me. Do people actually use the term cute man? Wow, that's a cute man. I don't really hear that. It is, wow, he's cute or what a cute guy. People don't say he's a really cute man.

As opposed to he is a really handsome man. People say that.

You're right, people say "cute guy" or "he's cute" but the algorithm for Google images equates the word "man" with "guy" so that doesn't matter when doing a Google Images search.

Both are good but I think guys who are cute usually have rounder more feminine features. Not really feminine but just softer. Handsome guys are more angular and probably more muscular, plus I think older guys tend to fall into the handsome catagory too. At least in general that seems close. I prefer cute.

Think of it this way:
Justin Beiber is cute
Harry Conick, Jr. is handsome
That is a good way to separate the two..It also who says it to you. Another good friend who female or male may compliment you by saying to you by saying " you look really handsome in your new suit" I can see why people have a hard time thinking of the difference of the two. Without even having to say your cute..

Handsome is more mature, hot and ready to take a compliment word. I would use this if I was already ready to step up and date a guy.

Cute is more for a younger guy who is cute, but you don't really want him for your man....

lol...just my opinion.

Or, one more thought on cute, maybe teasing a bit, maybe used to show I like you but am unsure if you like me kinda thing -- then cute is appropriate.?

Yeah, makes no sense to me either!! lol
