Don't forget other options like avocados, grass fed butter, and coconut oil. A mixture of coconut butter, almond butter, and unsweetened dark chocolate is what has gotten me through my sugar detoxes. :)
I think this is an excellent suggestion. Healthy fats (non-hydrogenated, unsaturated...) and unsweetened chocolate have worked really well for me. I also like dilute apple cider vinegar to help modulate blood sugar levels..
Which helps reduce cravings.

I try not to eat any processed foods... food that comes from a farm is good, from a factory - not so much

I also avoid a lot of the high GI fruits (oranges, bananas) and instead go for a high water content (pears can be good)

Any cravings that I have tend to be dealt with by taking in either green veggie juices, water or just by willpower

I do get sugars from natural sources, and try to take in a lot of autumn veggies (pumpkin, squash etc.)

Hope that this helps

Thanks guys and lady! I really appreciate all of the advice. I need to get this thing under control. And I really do love hearing all that each of you do to stay focused and healthy.
Inspiration from the source, nothing better! I realized that I am consuming so much, far too much.

I used fat to subdue the sugar cravings. I had such a sweet tooth - really out of control - that I didn't try to limit the fat at first, I just ingested as much as I needed to get through the day (coffee with real cream was a god send). After a few days the sugar craving subsided and I calmed down on the fats. I can't eat sweet things in moderation, so the key for me is losing the taste by cutting it out completely. I always fall off the wagon when I get cocky and think I can reintroduce it in moderation.

That was my down fall. I was so good about all of this a few years back, but I got cocky and it was my downfall. Lol. I forgot how I weened myself off. Now I am trying to get back to it.

Once you get past the first 3-4 days, its so much easier. You can do it :)

First off if you are hear to preach please leave this page, however advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
So I really just need some solid advice to help cut back on sugar consumption.
With the fall/winter holidays' coming up it is getting harder and harder to avoid it. So what do you do to dodge it? How did you transition off or to less? Etc.
The first step for me is always just my speech and thought patterns. I practice making sure I never think or utter the word 'can't'. I remind myself I CAN eat whatever the fuck I want as a grown-ass woman. Instead I say I don't . As in, I can eat noodles, but I don't . I can eat rice, but I don't . I can drink my carbs, but I don't . When I acknowledge it as a choice, rather than a rule, I feel empowered always, and not ever deprived.

I like the way you think

I found when I was losing weight that while I cut out snacks(and therefore sugar) to an extent, I didn't do it completely. I allowed and planned for it in my day to day food, as I do have a sweet tooth and I will be miserable if I can't have that sort of food. I just have less of it. If you plan what you're going to eat, then it becomes a lot easier. I have the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day because it keeps it simple. I'm boring with food though so it might not be easy for you. I vary my dinner, I'll allow for a small snack or two, and will generally look for the lowest calorie/sugar snack I can that I'll enjoy. And I take my time with it.

It helps.

So I have my foot pain under control and that allows me to do HIIT exercise. I found that I can have 1-2 almond Hershey kisses after a work out as a treat. It is an immediate reward after a workout and it feeds the sweet tooth without over doing it. That way it is scheduled. It is allowed and I can only have it after a workout, which in itself encourages the much needed movement.
The sugar is fairly low since the candy is very small and the almond forces me to savor the flavor more as well as remind me that almond are healthy which keeps the word healthy in my brain. Baby steps.
This also makes me less sugar hungry later.

I'm skinny with a really sweet tooth too. I think it's an idea to exercise and get out of breath every day. Also fast one day a week, not a big deal, I don't even feel hungry. Rest of the time, I eat everything I want, like a horse. Oh, and fruit juice is a no-no.

I watched bit and pieces of that. It is 90 minutes long.

The one take away I got from that was that "fructose" interferes with your body's hormone gherlin. Gherlin is what tells your brain that your stomach is full. So a kid can ingest a soda...at 150 calories... and then go on to eat even more crappy food.

By "fructose", I think the doctor is specifically pointing at "high fructose corn syrup" which is in almost all sodas. It is also in ketchup and A1 steak sauce.

Hell! The doc even pointed at some powdered baby formula that was something like 42% high fructose corn syrup.

Seems almost like a purposeful plot to get kids hooked early on sweets.

Coming late to the discussion - if you want, or need, to eliminate sugar, it's not just sugar (in any form) that must be eliminated from the diet - it's also anything your body can change into sugar and anything that will raise your insulin levels. That means all simple carbs like bread, pasta, and even things like oatmeal. Liquid carbs are the worst. Beer and fruit juice must go completely. Keeping your carb count to 20 grams or less a day and eating high quality protein will make eliminating sugar easier. Also, don't think that diet soda or anything else is going to help. Artificial sweeteners also cause insulin levels to rise, and it's insulin that makes you fat.

Fructose could also be the sugar in fruit which is naturally occurring

It's a shame that the U.S. doesn't ban high fructose corn syrup as Europe does.
