men are more guilty of raw, abusive and insulting language that is not very sophisticated in its messaging. Mens online abusiveness is usually solitary... in that even if several guys jump in... they are each acting alone.

Women are more guilty of conspiratorial abuse and more sophisticated psychologically targeted abuse. They tend to form cooperative rings of abusive women to ostracize, humiliate or threaten... and they are more likely to enlist males to support their abuse- whereas male abusers do not actively seek females help in being abusive.

but more importantly than gender, is age.

It is overwhelming young people who use the internet to abuse others.
Teen cliquishness... and narcissism, in a culture that postpones maturity, allowing that adolescent behavior to hold sway well into the late 20s and early 30s.

Above a certain age/maturity level, abusive behavior online fall off to just the small core of really genuine trolls, and self absorbed assholes.

I think it drops off as we become older, because there are a great many more things in life to be concerned about and devote time too. It becomes easier to identify between what is important, what isn't.

To varying degrees, anyone who dabbles online in public is somewhat self absorbed, dabbling in one place to dabbling in many.

Phenomenally speaking. "Cyber" Bullying is the epitome "social networking" which is akin to "anti-intellect", "dumbing-down society.

I remember that Louie CK once said that the difference between women and men is that men will hurt you but leave you intact as a human being... women on the other hand will shit deep inside your soul. I find it completely true.

also i know that people care too much about what others think of them. of all ages. i guess this only happens to people who aren't happy with themselves.

People do care what others think of them, I agree, to a certain extent. The thing social websites do not contain much of the time is a cam recorded image of the person delivering the derogatory comments.

Simply put, people that wish to deliver certain comments usually prefer to remain in anonymity. Goes much to show how their comments should be treated. The young tend to believe everything that is written is gospel. It is how we are taught, via the written word. These days it is something else. Body language accounts for half of what we say, yet most of the time these days we do not see it.

I don't know... raping a woman is a pretty deep down soul damaging experience, isn't it?

I think it drops off because many of us develop greater empathy and understanding of the need to tread softly as we age.

It takes seeing the damage we can do to one another, to make many of us more aware.

Its not just that we are too busy to bother.

Its that we gain wisdom, and we learn to fight more fairly.
