My mom sprang the "birds and bees" on me one day when I came home from third grade. She gave me some books with cutesy titles like "Where Did I Come From?" containing equally cutesy cartoon drawings of chubby naked people, and said we'd talk about it later. (I don't recall the subsequent discussion ever happening, btw, probably because what 8-year-old boy really wants to discuss such things with his mom?!?) These books invariably described sex as "a special kind of hug," although I'm not sure they conveyed quite enough about these hugs because for some time after reading them I assumed that people always had sex standing up. :D

As far as I can recall, my dad has NEVER talked to me about anything sexual, other than awkwardly discouraging me from sharing a bed with my longtime GF/fiancee (now wife) whenever we came home to visit after college. (Mom was cooler about this, telling me quietly, when Dad left the room, where the double-bed sheets could be found.)

Neither of my (suburban, conservative) parents ever talked about masturbation with me -- I'm self-taught there! :D

OMG! I read that book when I was in the 4th grade ( the chubby couple hugging ......to represent they where having sex).

My mom already told us "the big secret" when I was in the 2nd grade. I remember having this notion babies came from a womens belly button. Anyway when we had "the talk" I remember laughing alot because it sounded so ridicolus at the time :D

I already told a lot about the relationship with my dad in this thread. On the more sexual aspects of it, it's that he never talked about masturbating or something like that - I practiced the concept of "learning by doing" on that, and later completely stopped it, the real thing was just better.

But on women, and pleasing women, I learned a lot from him - positions, techniques and the many other bits and pieces that have something to do with it.

Though, I think teaching is the different word, with me he has been less a teacher than more an advisor, maybe.
