Just truly discovered WHY they're needed. As a freeballer of well over a decade, I've become adamant about rarely wearing underwear, though I do own about 3 to 5 pair. Suits, sweats, bball shorts, doesn't matter. Commando, baby! But now that I'm rehearsing for the role of Richie in A Chorus Line, it's become immediately apparent that all that extra swinging does NOTHING to help with the exact control needed to execute double pirouettes ;-) So, humbled, I grabbed some underwear by the next dance rehearsal. LOL

Duh. This is something brief and/or jockstrap wearers have known forever. Congrats on your role and on your newfound awareness.

The dancers belt is there to prevent hernia's, and trust me you want to wear one, because hernias aren't fun. Especially inguinal ones.

You're a serious enough dancer that you're doing double pirouettes with exact control, yet you're just now discovering that some support would be nice?

You may be thinking of a different type of dance belt. There are ones that simply look like padded thongs or jockstraps and their basic function is to keep your junk in check in certain outfits. Figure skaters use them as well as dancers. I don't really see them preventing hernias so I'm assuming that's something different.

I'm a singer who moves well. Very well. Got cast because of a previous show I did with the theatre and didn't have to audition. I've taken my crash course to ballet class. And no I don't have exact control, but I will by the time the show opens next month.

To those who offered congratulations instead of snarky comments/questions, thank you ;-)

I once saw Alvin Ailey's group with my then partner. He claimed that I had missed the dancer with the hardon! With dance belts, how could he tell? (And just because a male dancer has a big or even huge bulge doesn't mean he was hard anyway....)

Saw a guy dance professionally last night with nothing on but a pair of short trunks over a dance belt. Yummy.

They are to help soften the lines of the body. Yes, they accentuate the package but it also makes it a unified and single unmoving bulge instead of a jubbly bits bouncing around.

Miss Manners deplores the use of the word "junk" to apply to the most glorious object in the universe: a man's cock and balls ( well, I guess saying "a man's" is redundant, huh?)
Preferable, certainly, is "package," but better still is just plain-spoken English: "cock and balls", or even the clinical "genitalia." A true gentleman would not disparage his most precious assets with derogatory nomenclature.
