Did anyone else notice that Nikita and Layton seemed much more physically affectionate this week? I'm not suggesting anything sexual/romantic is happening between the two but I'm just now noticing a level of intimacy between them one doesn't often see outside of very close, trusting relationships, either of the platonic or romantic persuasion. The male professionals definitely seem to have less qualms about showing physical affection with one another than most other men and I imagine that has to do with how intimate and physical dance is, but based on observed body language alone it seems Nikita and Layton are sharing a new level of closeness after their Couple's Choice last week and I really really love seeing it. Maybe this is how they are behind the scenes and they were just more comfortable showing it on the night this week?

I could 100 percent be wrong about all of this of course as I only ever see the pre-dance package/body language on the night but there seemed to be a bit of awkwardness in the beginning as they got used to working with one another, which worried me as after the Giovanni/Richie pairing last series I was really questioning the wisdom of male same-sex pairings between queer and non-queer men, but if there was ever any awkward stage in their Strictly journey Layton and Nikita definitely broke through it and have formed a solid professional partnership that has turned into genuine love and affection. As a very (platonically) affectionate gay man with mostly straight male friends who are comfortable expressing platonic physical affection as well their partnership is honestly really validating. Also hearing Nikita mention Layton's mother saying how similar they both were/Nikita saying he already had a sister but now he has a brother in Layton had me feeling all of the feelings last week haha.

Anyways I'll wrap this up before I turn this essay into a written TED Talk but I think last week marks the first time I fully started appreciating this partnership and this week just seemed incredibly special on top of that.
I'm gutted that Angela and Carlos are gone and seeing Layton and Nikita in the bottom two was horrific, but I'm glad Layton and Nikita made it through. It would have felt like a knife to the heart if we didn't get to see them pull out all of the stops with a freestyle. Carlos is an absolute treasure though and we should protect that man at all costs.
