"Look_Back_in_Anger"

Side two of "Low" the whole thing is chilling and evocative.

When Bowie stretches out on side two, however, his mask begins to slip. The four pieces strain to evoke the spacey planes of modern electronic music where the compositions themselves become secondary to the mood they evoke. And while Bowie hits celestial pay dirt on one of the pieces -- "Weeping Wall" -- he more often calls attention to his own dabbling. Such technosheen music requires a detached master to hold the reins, and Bowie, the cracked actor, is just too much of a ham. The problem is most glaring when his Latin-mass voices are blended into the lunar mix with the subtlety of ripe blue cheese. - John Milward, Rolling Stone, 4/21/77.
John Milward can bite me.

"Changes" is still a favorite of mine, I loved his treatment of "Wild_Is_The_Wind" , and possibly just for the intro, Glass_Spider.

Heh, I'm remembering the look my mother gave me when I told her about this new artist with a song called "Let's Dance". New, eh?

Without question, Heroes. It's powerful and beautiful and classic.

I'm not a fan of Bowie but Heroes... it's beyond romantic.

I think when the obits are written, Heroes will be remembered as his greatest contribution to popular music. His work with Brian Eno virtually defined cutting-edge, smart Synth music (ELP is too dreamy, Moroder is too jittery, neither is especially smart).

I remember being in a New-Wave post-Punk club in Boston around 1981 and Heroes came on. When I asked the guy I was chatting up if he'd care to dance, he gave me a hug and said "No thinks, I don't want to cry right now."

Close second for me is Rebel Rebel: the song is over 35 years old and refuses to age. It's still as raw and fresh as the day it was recorded. And Oh! You Pretty Things is the only Bowie song I've ever chosen to counterpoint a chapter of The Mancunt Chronicles.

Quirky personal fave is Joe The Lion: sue me. It's the fucking balls.

Ha. I remember wondering where David Bowie popped up from was when Let's Dance came out. That was the first I had heard of him.

I'll forgive you for liking any part of Never Let Me Down. The man himself is appalled by that album now.

Another vote for YOUNG AMERICANS. Perhaps it was the time frame that we played that album every time friends came over and we partied. I liked all of Bowie's stuff back in the '70s early '80s Let's Dance was huge for him in the '80s, but I haven't heard much from him since.

I remember the first Bowie song I hear was Starman and it has forever stayed with me as a personal favourite, just because of the memories it brings back. Life on Mars is an amazing tune which I never tire of hearing.

i only "sort of" liked his version of China Girl...i know he only re-recorded it to help Iggy, but the Iggy version to me is so much more raw and gripping...(and since DB co-wrote the earlier one, i give him his credit for how good it was)
