I can't decide whether this is bedroom farce or a Laurel and Hardy re-run.

Whilst I don't condone my own reaction to 1Bigg1 (god he couldn't even spell his own nic), I think that there is an issue that needs addressing (again), namely that of members who post with no intention of any positive contribution. I appreciate that there is a value judgment within that statement.

Personally my friends list has been more than decimated over the weekend.

If that had been the case 1BIGG1 would have been gone some time ago - it was suggested a while back that 1BIGG1 was jqblonde. If DC's ban (that Pecker says he imposed in error) was intended as a temp ban though, does that mean 1BIGG1's ban was a '7 day cooling off' ban too?

I'd love to know if he is coming back or not. If he does I would be most impressed if the membership could ignore him.

OMG Heather! This site is like sooo spacious and it has so much activity. I just can't believe it. I mean like the other day, I was at the mall and I saw these cute red shoes. I just had to have them. And I went over to Sephora and I went nuts over in the Mac makeup. I spent over like $300.00. It doesn't matter though because Biff will totally pay off my Amex Platinum. We're gonna have Buffy and Dirk over from the Lodge tonight and like I'm gonna have my cleaning lady, Esmarelda, cook for us. She's a peach. Well, gots ta' go girlfriend. Yes and no.

It's a bulletin board but for many of us it's been the springboard for making new friends both online and off. Some of us treasure those friendships and delight in reading each other's posts. What's disappointing is to see solid articulate posters banned when they're pushed into a corner by some asshole troll. It's happened before and it will happen again.

Then i'll explain. A tiny piece of history about this board which might help you to grasp the situation since you've been here all of a month.

LPSG,org was once a site where everyone was welcome to join a discussion if they could present a logical argument or offer a different point of view. Even if the discussion became heated it wasn't a cause for concern unless someone decided to become intentionally and glaringly abusive to other posters. We were encouraged to moderate ourselves and many of us learned how to interact well with people from all walks of life, deduce whether or not a given argument was valid, dig deeper, play devil's advocate, open your mind to new ideas and perspectives, and have fun all the while.

Sounds great for some if everyone agrees to act like automatons, avoid rocking the boat, using harsh language when and where it's appropriate (sometimes it is), and stepping away from an argument if the temperature rises. But for others it's milquetoast. We appreciate the value of learning from one another of which supposedly intelligent beings are capable. When an atmosphere of fear is generated in order to prevent said discussions from taking place, the level of thoughtful, erudite conversation plummets almost immediately.

Now everyone is asked to step away from a conversation if it becomes even the least bit intense (i'm not talking about blatant abuse of another poster) and what's the lesson to be learned in that? I'm a grown woman and can handle myself in conversation quite well, thank you. I don't need a slap on the wrist as though i'm still in elementary school if the conversation becomes a little more heated than usual. I learn from others who have different life experiences and perspectives than me - not so much from those who are similar to me. Fostering an environment where discussion - yes, even heated discussion - of various topics should be encouraged. If you can't argue on an Et Cetera thread something is amiss.

I'm not crying for the days of yore on LPSG. They're long gone. I'm sad and disappointed about the future of LPSG and what could've been.

Hmm, slightly disturbing seeing so many go, but I wasn't on good standing with any of them anyway. I only read up to page 4 or 5 before getting tired of it but I think I saw around 4 bannings and Kink thinking of leaving (no! ;~.

It's not as troubling as it would have been when I was here daily, but still not something I like seeing. Then again, it's just a website.

I'll offer an additional thought on top of bliss' perspective.

On any message board (seriously, ANY) you have contributors and you have trolls. Contributors are people who contribute to the vibrancy of the board's culture; trolls attempt to destroy it. The contributor is driven by a willingness to bare their souls and the troll is driven by a desire to shit on them.

LPSG is a board on which contributors and trolls are treated as equals and afforded the same level of respect.

Egalitarianism like this is meant to be Utopia, but in practice is Mos Eisley. That's how someone gets backed into a corner. The cops are here to protect the bad guys.

Not every troll is sophisitcated enough to take someone out with him. But some of them are. I've tangoed with a few of them and I'm sure that put me on some "watch" lists, and I'm not what many would consider just off the turnip truck. Some of them are patient. Some are opportunitstic. Some have grudges.

One of the more hilarious side-effects of LPSG giving equal rights to trolls is that the banned contributor sometimes comes back, but the banned troll ALWAYS comes back. So in this case, we've lost DC, more than likely forever. But you have 1BIGG1's return to LPSG's warm embrace to look forward to.

I feel cheated in a way.

There are some really great folks here, or were here.
This affects those of us LPSG wall flowers who just come here to read and have enough sense to stay out of discussions they are not qualified to contribute to. I still enjoy or rather enjoyed reading those people.

The trolls seemed to be getting the E Ticket and the more established folks a general admission. I hardly call that fair. More attention needs to be paid to the real trouble makers!

If this is not done, it is the site's revenue that will suffer if no one wants to be here.
