What do you guys make of this? It seems very odd and the only explanation available at the moment is that it was caused by fireworks.

    Spooky.

I looked this up online yesterday, very creepy. They are now saying it could of been fireworks, a lightning strike or high altitude hail. As for the fish, they are saying it is a natural occurrence. If you ask me, I think I need to go pick up a bible, lol.

I've been watching this story on the news with some interest for the past couple of days. I'm not really buying the fireworks theory. Something is not adding up to me in that they are convinced that the fish and bird deaths are unrelated. My personal theory is a meteor shower that clobbered the birds and then poisoned the fish. But that is just a guess.

It's hard for me to fathom how both of these incidents happen in the same area and not be related in some fashion. Can you pick up a few extra bibles for the room, anth0nyt?

"UPDATE: A state veterinarian tells NBC that preliminary necropsy results from several birds show that they died of "multiple blunt trauma to their vital organs," though what caused the trauma remains uncertain. According to Dr. George Badley, their stomachs were empty, so they weren't poisoned, and they died in midair, not upon impact with the ground."

This also just happened in Louisiana. 500 Blackbirds fell to their death on a road. This has happened before over the years. Many would say it's not a good sign. Many say that when a bird crashes into your window and dies , it's a sign of a death about to happen. Several years ago a blackbird crashed into our picture window and died. It was early morning. It made a very loud nose. About two days later our cat (who was healthy) died in my arms. So this gives me the chills hearing about all of this. I would tend to think toxins in the air played a big part in both situations. Is there something in the air in Louisiana and Arkansas? One thing i do know. When birds start falling to their death, it's a warning of dark days ahead. Other states this happened in are Maryland and Kentucky.

UPDATE: BIRDS DROP FROM SKY OVER LOUISIANA...

    MYSTERY...

A tiny little bird crashed into my window on the 31st. She survived (I know it was a she) and I kept her in a cage till she recovered. The next day I set her free cause she was doing fine again. Cute little birdie (it was a Siskin).
Whatever happened to all the birds and the fish is terrible and I wonder what caused it.
They even showed it on the news here in Germany.

The birds are strange to me, but up north we have fish kills quite often. It's usually due to their being stuck in an area where the water went anoxic for one reason or another. They put aerators in man made ponds or lagoons to prevent it in warm weather but it can still sometimes happen if ice cuts a segment of water off from the main channel.

They say those wind-power generators are hard on birds. If they put a turbine farm up in a flyway, that will cause all sorts of disorientation.

I read that the blackbirds suddenly startled in the middle of the night and began flying into walls and buildings. That is consistent with the noise hypothesis. Nobody is saying what the noise was.

I would say the second link offered above is the most informative. But the comments on the first link are the most amusing.

The conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this. Every "expert" they interview spouts something that sounds amazingly stupid. Of course, the late night comedians are having tons of fun with it.

Hundreds of dead snapper washed up on New Zealand beach

Hundreds of dead snapper have washed up on Coromandel beaches on the North Island of New Zealand, leaving holidaymakers perplexed.

The mysterious incident came as the southern United States was hit with a second unexplained mass bird death within a week.

Both mass deaths seem to have happened after dark and these were not nocturnal birds. My guess is that they were spooked into flying in weather that killed them for some reason. Possibly freak lighting strikes.
