I think the saying "young, dumb and full of cum" applies here. Most people when they are young don't give a shit to be bothered with the important things in life. It's why so many young people don't vote, for example. I think it only natural that the younger members here are only looking for fun and light subject matters. I'm not all that young anymore and even I get burned out on some of the serious discussions here from time to time. Aw, who am I kidding? I mostly have fun posting in the Funny Stuff and Celebrity Endowments forums!

As for the posting of new pic threads in this forum, I thought it was pretty much agreed that New Member Intros was the most appropriate place for those? Perhaps not everyone has gotten the memo on it though. No, wait.. I think that was hashed out mostly in the Etc. forum, no wonder these youngins haven't gotten the memo!

Has this forum become the gathering place for narcissism and exhibitionism?

I think that it always was.:biggrin1:

Has my generation really come to this? We can't communicate about problems, have simple discourse, or even casual discussion?

You seem very tense LINittyLion. Things seems to be going quite well in the forum IMO.

For what it's worth, here's my observations.

As a 22 year old, I've noticed that pretty much every time I enter into a conversation with an acquaintance, whether it be at work, or out with some friends, or wherever, it always turns into some sort of competition. Not so much, "Hey, look at me! Look at how awesome and cool I am," but more of an endless banter, must get the last word in kind of thing. It's all rooted in competition, though. And I think it's how we were raised.

Growing up, everyone was always told, "You're special" and "You're unique" and "You're perfect just the way you are" when that's clearly not true. The problem is, if we grow up believing that, we're going to expect everyone else to believe that. Whether it's having the last word in an argument or having people tell you that you're hot or whatever it is, it's all about being the best.

It's not going to go away because everyone's scrambling for everyone else's approval, and that's what it boils down to.

At least, that's what I think.

Though I'm not in your generation (a decade older), I've brought up this issue only to be called a troll for doing so. Yes, it seems that a lot of people on this forum just want to post pictures of themselves, receive compliments, and that's it.

I'm willing to talk, though.

Has this forum become the gathering place for narcissism and exhibitionism? Why is it that every thread says "New Pics, look at me". Is this some desperate cry for attention, meant to pad your ego, or is it just a glorified collection of picture threads?

Has my generation really come to this? We can't communicate about problems, have simple discourse, or even casual discussion? Why is it that a good 95% of people in here have nothing to add except "look at my new pics!!!1one"?

Every time I mosey my way on in here expecting to be able to possibly discuss issues with my peers, I leave here incredibly disappointed.

Am I the only one who sees it this way?

Completely agree, but I'd take it a step further. Between all the politically correct diatribe that everyone is equal in results (not simply opportunity), and that everyone is perfect...a narcissist generation has resulted. Now, these people are entering the real world, realizing that not everyone thinks they are perfect. This results in the confrontational nature experienced by many a person here. I think I see it from a different perspective since I am still in college. The standoffish nature of males my age is absolutely pathetic in my opinion. I see people at my fraternity parties weekly trying to outdo one another, or start a fight over petty shit. It's constant competition for no apparent reason.

I am of the opinion that as my generation ages, you will see much more drastic decisions being made by those in power, and you will see much more unrest coming from the regular guy. It is this that probably concerns me the most. Everyone thinks their opinion is correct, and there are SO many people who think that if others do not agree, they are out of their mind or must be made to agree. The last part of the sentece I just wrote, has a historical precedent...

I wonder if it would be helpful to have a sub-section to "Young and Hung" specifically for showing the goods and looking for critique. Leave the main Forum for its designated use (if I understand it correctly)! It seems to me that this would satisfy all demands....
It seems to me that the same purpose could be served by simply posting the photos in the member's gallery. The galleries are SPECIFICALLY designed for viewers to be able to leave comments. I have not yet figured out why all the "tell me I'm worthy" threads end up in "young and hung." Begging someone to rate your photos doesn't really seem to me to fit the category "young and hung"... but that's where most of them end up.

It's not that I particularly care that people are trying to show themselves off (though I rarely click on those threads), it's just that those threads are pretty much the only things being posted in this forum. I know I'm not really helping by not creating new threads, but that's just because I don't need any assistance with anything right now.

I've found anyway that just making a post in any thread gets attention to my pictures without me intending to do so. I fail to see the point in trying to advertise in this forum by posing questions that seem just a little fake.
