if you use the internet or pitchfok for someone to tell you what is or isn't cool you are not cool man.

you should know that. if you were, so your not. hell we don't even use labels we just call it indie so we can call it something to the uncool people.

trust me I know what I am talking about here

slam is an awesome movie, saul williams is outta this world.
other good hiphop acts are out there, aesop rock, defjux, haiku de tat,
blade, and i like alot of apocalyptic folk.
acts like cocorosie,joanna newsom,pentangle,milenasong,the books.
stuff like that,

but music to define this generation i think is indie.
people like cat power,modest mouse,wolf parade,smog.

how old are you? you must be realitivly young to know that.

There is no defining music, sadly. Product is king in today's musical world. There are always interesting artists cropping up, but none of them are popular on the scale of rappers and hip hop crap. Electronic music might actually follow rap and hip hop.

Techno... is God...

Gabriel & Dresden.. electrify my life.

He should have, my generation is far more interesting and had great music. This emo shit sucks.

I graduated in '83. I'm sorry to say I hated nearly all of the music from that era. It's mostly just sort of funny to me now.

I think the significant influence of the the hip hop/rap genre today goes unnoticed by most over 30. A lot of it is tough to listen too - content as well as esthetically, but it is making a huge and lasting impression on youth and teens of all races and from all economic backgrounds. 23 year olds have spent 10 years or more listening to it. Some of it is pretty damn good, too.

cool question. i might be flamed for this but who cares? i think the music that basically was my generation while growing up was pop. honestly, in the late 90's, boy bands (Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC) and peeps like Britney and others ruled the world. So much pop hit were made in the 90's.....

There is really good music for this generation, to name a few...
Rilo Kiley
The Knife
Hot Chip
Bobaflex

May not be something that appeals to everyone's ear, but there is great new talent around. I'll give it time to develop.

I love all EDM, but techno and breaks are my fave!
Hawtin, Kitten, Alien :notworthy:
And I am still rocking G&D's San Francisco set from 2006. Awesome!

Global DJ's I seen them less than a month ago live... holy fuck.. I wish I was an E-tard honestly.. it was amazing. I danced for 5 and a half hours non stop. I paid for it in the morning, but techno just does something to me.

:biggrin1: Not saying how, but a few times, with the right DJ spinning, I have gone 8+ hours. Trick is water, extra vitamin C, good meal, and some flax oil... no pain or soreness the next day.

I have been to Aria twice, love the Canadian scene! If you get a chance, check out Winter Music Conference or Coachella, the electronic artists that perform and vibe are amazing.

If the music went on for that long I would have done it.... What an experience, let me check those out.

WMC seems to be one you pay huge amounts for and you go and learn to play and debate things...
