Really? Are we not allowed to have opinions in your world? No one can say anything because we don’t live there? Who decides in your world who may have an opinion? You? We all see the riots and destruction being done. Of course everyone has an opinion. Don’t try to shut that down because you don’t want to hear or see what’s going on in your city. You above all should see what this is doing to your beloved city.
Oregon trooper injured, 24 arrested in Portland protests

Portland protest deemed ‘riot’ Saturday after fire set in police union building

Yeah your opinions dont matter.
at all.
period.
get cucked.

The opinions that matter, are the voters who live here.
thats kinda how things operate here in the united states.
I thought you republicans lived to shout about state rights and state sovereignty?
Remember, police departments are all local offices.... and local voters get to decide things.
Duh.

You see a select little bit of what FOX news likes to plaster on their "news show"
you've never been to Portland.
Tell me how much of the city is 'destroyed'?
how big are the 'riots'?

its two buildings.
5 miles apart from one another.
that fire last night, was of the police union building, there was a small fire that was quickly put out. not to mention.... its a few 'bad apples', and if you give that excuse to the police then it applies to the protestors.
"Though both fires were quickly extinguished, the flames reignited criticism of the relatively few protesters who provoke police with property damage and other tactics."
Portland protest deemed ‘riot’ Saturday after fire set in police union building
(this is from the same article you just shared ;))
it ain't a riot. the article isn't calling it a riot, the police declared a riot (only way they are allowed to disperse folks here), and the journalist is reflecting that through unbiased reporting.
try reading the article past the title. you might learn something.

oh and I was referring to the first fire 'rioters' lit, over a month ago.
you know... that trash fire..
cause at the time that i wrote my response, this article hadn't been finished yet (as the events were still occurring and not all the facts were available... you know... proper journalism)

but disregarding that (cause lets be honest.. you don't care),
I travel through the city all the time.
it's operating as usual.
no destruction
no mayhem
no pandemonium
coffee shops are operating, business carries on.

Oh and those amazing cops that stop crime that you love so much...
have yet to do anything about:
  • The Red Mafia - They've been operating in the city since the 60's, though the FBI broke it up in the 90's so they are almost non existent today, but they are still around.
  • Mexican Cartels - Portland is the hub of their heroin and (to a lesser degree) cocaine distribution network, as well as loan sharking
  • Triad - typical human trafficking, drugs, guns, stolen cars, extortion shit. oh yeah a lot of sex trafficking passes through Portland (as we are a major port on the west coast) and out of the states.
  • Bloods, Crips, Nortenos - im sure you are well aware of them - rely on the cartels for the drugs they sell.
  • Hell's Angels - peddling meth, chop shop operations.
They've been around for years, and nothing has been done.
doing such an amazing job right?

Portland protesters cause mayhem again, police officer hurt
(footnote: ABC News, NOT Fox)

A few bad apples? Sounds like more than a few...

Portland protesters cause mayhem again, police officer hurt
Protests in Portland, Oregon, were chaotic again even after the mayor pleaded with demonstrators to stay off the streets

PORTLAND, Ore. -- About 200 people, some wielding homemade shields, clashed with police early Friday for the third consecutive night as two other Black Lives Matter rallies proceeded peacefully elsewhere in the city, authorities said.

The demonstration with unrest came hours after the city's Democratic mayor pleaded for protesters to stay off the streets, saying those who barricaded the doors to a police precinct the night before and tried to set it ablaze were not demonstrators, but criminals.

And more...attacks on police, and innocent (elderly, female) citizens

Early Friday, as peaceful demonstrations proceeded elsewhere in the city, a group of people gathered at a park in eastern Portland and marched to the local police precinct, where authorities say they spray-painted the building, popped the tires of police cars, splashed paint on the walls, vandalized security cameras and set a fire in a barrel outside the building. One officer was severely injured by a rock, police said, but no additional details were provided.

An older woman who tried to stop the vandalism was hit with a bucket of white paint and then got into a shouting match with those in the crowd as one protester tried to wrap her in yellow police tape — a conflict caught on video. Another elderly woman using a walker was also captured on video trying to put out a fire with a fire extinguisher while a black-clad protester blocked her way
.

But it’s all good. Cause you say so. No one else’s opinion matters. Got it. What we are seeing on the evening news are not riots. They are peaceful protests. Cause you say so. Right. Kumbaya. Perhaps those bad apples protesters, like the bad apple police, ruin it for all the others. And like the police, everyone will focus on the bad apple rioters and lump them together. As it’s been said by many, the rioters have hijacked the intent of the peaceful protesters, and the messaging. But hey, my opinion doesn’t matter.

You really don't see the hypocrisy do you?
Jesus you are an idiot if you can't.

let me accurately quote the article, because you only selected the bits that match your narrative.

"... Mayor Ted Wheeler said the violent protesters are also serving as political “props” for President Donald Trump in a divisive election-season where the president is hammering on a law-and-order message. Trump has tried to portray the protesters as "sick and dangerous anarchists” running wild in the city's streets.

The chaos that started Thursday night and lasted into Friday morning in a residential neighborhood about six miles (10 kilometers) from downtown marked the 70th night of unrest since May 25, following the George Floyd killing in Minneapolis. Police arrested 12 adults and detained one 17-year-old on suspicion of charges ranging from interfering with a police officer to rioting.

The demonstrations this week are noticeably smaller than the crowds of thousands who turned out nightly for about two weeks in July to protest the presence of U.S. agents sent by the Trump administration to protect a federal courthouse that had become a target of nightly violence.

This week's clashes nevertheless ratcheted up tensions after an agreement last week between state and federal officials seemed to offer a brief reprieve. The deal brokered by Democratic Gov. Kate Brown called for agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to pull back from their defense of the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse starting July 30

...." (from the same article)

Those other protests haven't been hijacked.
the only things that are getting hijacked are the news outlets.
they haven't been covering the peaceful protests, not nearly enough.
which is why idiots like yourself think that Portland is being destroyed and anarchy reigns.

Try and post everything, you might get some respect from folks.

Now back to that hypocrisy. try to keep your double standards in check.

And yes, your opinions do not matter. you are entitled to them, and you can say them all you want, but in the end you are not a Portland resident. So your words do not carry any weight, especially if you have not seen what is going on in Portland with your own eyes.

It's not me who decides that. It's how the government works.
period. end of story.

Each city gets to decide how things are run, policies are enacted and changes are made based on what the residents desire.
How do we find that out?
With a vote.
And since you don't live here...
you don't get a vote...
hence your words and opinions do not matter whatsoever.

If that gets you all butt hurt, then that is your problem.

oh and its also been said by many, many, many more people and for much much much longer that the policing in this country is rife with corruption, violent policing culture and a lack of any form of punishment.

So keep it up kiddo, keep trying with those flimsy arguments.
All you are doing is pissing into the wind...
but despite getting splashed in the face, you still haven't learned to keep your mouth shut.
Perhaps that's another thing you have in common with Trump.
Enjoy your shower.

Meh. I posted the article, in full, for all to read. You have even noted that in a prior email. I would expect anyone interested would read the entire article, and draw their own conclusions. That’s what we do. And yes, I highlighted portions that provided a different view from the one you wish to present. I trust you have no problem with opposing views being presented? It is a democracy, with free speech, at least at the moment. Though you clearly seem to wish to squelch any opposing views. But I digress. You claim there were a few “bad apple” protesters, similar to a few bad apple police. And you wish for the protesters to be given the benefit of the doubt. Yet, you hardly offer the same benefit to the police, so you tell me who is the hypocrite?

The article noted there were about 200 protesters (a little more than a few bad apples). It went on to share the mayor’s plea to stop, which was immediately met with continued riots by the “peaceful protesters” (your mayor called them “criminals“). In addition, the “peaceful proetsters” attacked police, and two elderly women who were in opposition to the “peaceful protesters.” The “peaceful protesters” spilled paint on one, and wrapped her in police tape. The other was blocked when she tried to put out a fire. How cowardly and pathetic of these “peaceful protesters.” These are the people you wish for the public to give support and respect to? You don’t believe they are misrepresenting the cause? You don’t believe they are taking attention away from the true peaceful protesters? THAT, is called hijacking.

Take note. You have an opinion. I have an opinion. It is mine. Not once did I stoop to your level attacking your intelligence or calling you names. If you wish to debate, learn to treat your opponents with respect, or don’t debate at all.

TODAY in Santa Clarita California. The police are called because a homeless man is attacking three children at a bus stop. The children are Black. Who do you think had guns drawn on them and were detained?

Sheriff’s deputies aim guns at Black teens who were victims of a crime
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department held three Black teenagers at gunpoint, even though they were the ones who needed help.

Lord have mercy ! To think that people see this as okay and think that this is them doing their jobs smh. These kids needed police assistance and they rolled up and pointed assault rifles at them. While the man who was attacking them got away. Wow, and people still try to class this as a few bad apples. Since the police aren’t protecting and serving. Who’s going to protect the people from the police ?

Haven't insulted us huh?
I seem to recall differently...

Wow. Of course. What else would we expect from the loonie left? Deny. Deny. Deny.

Now then, shall we talk about then number of cops who've extrajudicially killed folks?
that number is much higher than 200..
And people died as a result.
in fact, 999 people in 2019 alone.

Yes we do live in a democracy, opposing views are presented sure.
But presentation does not mean representation.
Your opinion is not represented here.
Why?
well I'm glad you asked!
because you are not a resident of this city, or in fact this state!!!
:)

Oh and felons in Florida have maaaaany opinions.
But guess what...
They don't have any say either, only they live in their state.

now you are deliberately misrepresenting that article.
our Mayor specifically asked demonstrators to stop, adding that trump is using them as a target of a smear campaign :)
get it right.

You are more than welcome to have an opinion, share that opinion, and knock it nine ways to Sunday if you so choose.
But
your opinion cannot stop us from defunding the police if we so choose.
not a snowballs chance in hell.
zilch.

unless you move here. But then get ready to get cucked in the polls.

Oh and stop bringing up protestors for the sake of talking about protestors.
because thats not the intention of this thread.
If it happens again then we'll just have to report ya.
as you are once again trying to covertly justify and distract from police brutality.

This isn't a debate when you keep trying to deflect, misrepresent or even deny, and steer away from the topic.

Dude. If you don’t see the connection between defunding police and the protesters, that’s on you. The protesters have made defunding police a centerpiece part of theIr agenda. It’s all related to the title and topic.

Cheers man. And to the “us” and “we” as well. ;)

Does he know the definition of centerpiece ? :joy: I wouldn’t say defunding the police is a centerpiece of the protest. Getting equal treatment for a marginalized group of people is. But hey. What's a little more deflecting. As long a he thinks he's being clever while doing it. :joy: smh

Lol my point was to stop acting like a saint.
We can see your blithe contempt leaking through the thin mask of civility.

secondly the point of reporting is to remove comments that do not pertain to the topic of the thread (aka the terms of service duh.)

Lastly, if you look at the protests and see a problem while also looking at the police and thinking "I have no problems with cops routinely killing innocent people, falsifying reports, profiling folks, assaulting people because they stand up and refuse to stay silent, and regularly have bodycam/dashcam 'malfunctions' when doing questionable things...... Then perhaps you are a part of the problem.

If you are fine with humans killing humans, just say that.

because I have yet to hear you or anyone defending police to condemn their actions, Without following it up with an excuse for their behavior.

you really aren't listening if you think BLM is only about defunding the police. it is so so so much more.

perhaps you ought to have a black history month and actually learn about these communities and what they've suffered.

Right? they do everything they can to avoid answering uncomfortable questions.
nah the status quo is too comfy for them.
if it doesn't affect them then they don't care and don't want it to change.
No compassion for fellow humans.

That's what I find so disturbing about all of their responses. No empathy towards another human being and constantly trying to justify a police officer abusing their authority.

Hillary nailed it quite correctly...basket of deplorables. And they're morphing into something far more sinister as Der Führer's presidency implodes. A very high percentage watch the Fox News hate machine daily for replenishment.

A Bible Burning, a Russian News Agency and a Story Too Good to Check Out
WASHINGTON — For some of President Trump’s loudest cheerleaders, it was a story too good to check out: Black Lives Matters protesters in Portland, Ore., had burned a stack of Bibles, and then topped off the fire with American flags. There was even a video to prove it.

The story was a near-perfect fit for a central Trump campaign talking point — that with liberals and Democrats comes godless disorder — and it went viral among Republicans within hours of appearing earlier this month. The New York Post wrote about it, as did The Federalist, saying that the protesters had shown “their true colors.” Senator Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican, said of the protesters, “This is who they are.” Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, tweeted that antifa had moved to “the book burning phase.”

The truth was far more mundane. A few protesters among the many thousands appear to have burned a single Bible — and possibly a second — for kindling to start a bigger fire. None of the other protesters seemed to notice or care.

Yet in the rush to paint all the protesters as Bible-burning zealots, few of the politicians or commentators who weighed in on the incident took the time to look into the story’s veracity, or to figure out that it had originated with a Kremlin-backed video news agency. And now, days later, the Portland Bible burnings appear to be one of the first viral Russian disinformation hits of the 2020 presidential campaign.
The Portland video represents the Russian disinformation strategy at its most successful. Take a small but potentially inflammatory incident, blow it out of proportion and let others on the political fringes in the United States or Canada or Europe spread it.

Best implores city council to 'stand up for what is right' after protesters visit her home

"Why on Earth – for the people who’ve worked so very hard – would we ever consider not having the best of the best and compensating them fairly?" Best said in a press conference in response to the cuts."I find that absolutely shocking and quite frankly – I think it’s punitive and not well thought out. And that’s exactly how I feel about it."

So, it because she is black and a woman. Wow, you just go right to it don't you - no more pretense. I guess the hoods came back from the laundry.

.....The newest numbers from the Seattle Police Department show that 56% of all calls are not criminal in nature. So one of the main goals of the council's new resolution is to take those calls away from police, by creating a new civilian-led department of "Community Safety and Violence Prevention". That department would work alongside police and take over the non-criminal responses.....

Portland DA Won’t Pursue Charges Against Most Protesters
August 11, 2020
PORTLAND, Ore. (CN) — Most of the approximately 550 people arrested in Portland, Oregon, since May 29 in protests against police brutality and systemic racism won’t be prosecuted, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced Tuesday.

Just 11 days into his new term as elected district attorney, Schmidt announced Tuesday that his office will decline to prosecute cases related to the protests that do not involve violence, theft, or deliberate property damage. His office will not pursue charges of disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer, criminal trespass and most charges of rioting. There will be no change in how prosecutors handle cases like arson and assault.

Schmidt said Tuesday that the policy was an attempt to “create a forum” for Portlanders to express their “collective grief, anger and frustration” about the death of George Floyd, a Black man killed by a white Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes, and about “the countless other abuses people of color have endured in our country throughout history.

“As prosecutors, we acknowledge the depth of emotion that motivates these demonstrations and support those who are civically engaged through peaceful protesting,” Schmidt said at a Tuesday press conference. “We recognize that we will undermine public safety, not promote it, if we leverage the force of our criminal justice system against peaceful protestors who are demanding to be heard.”
