No, actually it got worse with the Reagan Tax cuts. It all springs from that. Every single social problem you complain about is ultimately Ron's fault. I'm totally serious.
The tax cuts and all the GOP cuts after the initial cuts shifted the tax burden to workers away from corporations. This discouraged investment in industry, wages and benefits. If forced layoffs and job cuts as everything was sent out of the US to be made cheaper. The goal became max profits all the time. The loss of high paying jobs broke up families increased debt, drug use and hopelessness in what once were thriving blue collar communities. Look at Flint. Michigan. Republicans did that. You bitch about Democratic run cities, but the reality is cities like Flint, Baltimore are not badly run as much as they have nothing to work with - no jobs, no tax base, zippitty doo dah. Quite honestly the best thing we could do for Baltimore right now is move in 350,000 immigrants and their families. There are so many empty houses there they would not make a dent in the supply, but they would make the local economy thrive, clean up neighborhoods with local stores and enterprises. Immigration is not the problem, it can be part of the solution. But, you'd rather keep the brown skins out and the money on fewer and fewer white pockets.
It all comes back to the 1980's tax cuts.
This is off topic for this thread, so I'm not going to dig into this here.
