Seriously people, why even cry racism here, as if the comments were intentionally malicious, if there is no negative intent in its context?

Reid describes Obama as "light skinned" with "no negro dialect, unless he wants to have one."

So, he doesn't speak slang unless he wants to? And yes, Obama is lighter skinned than the average black man. Get over it.

"a few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee."

Is this really a comment surrounding race? Could it be one derived from the perception of political clout & rank, considering that Clinton and Kennedy have been in the game MUCH longer? Or did some desperate people need to assume the whole "master/servant" adage just to launch another partisan attack on "libs".

Again... wake me when the comments are REALLY inflammatory.

Of course they aren't racist. Because they were uttered by Democrats.

Had Limbaugh or Hannity said, "a few years ago Obama would have been getting us coffee" you and the rest of the army would go apeshit.

There's a double standard with dems and republicans regarding race, If a republican had said those things, everyone would calling for their heads.

Wheres Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson now?

Bullshit. But I must say, it's great to watch all of you closed-minded conservatives cry like victims over this. What's the matter? Shouting "Where's The Birth Certificate" doesn't work to conjure up phony outrage anymore?

It's more than just the comment itself... it's also about its context & intent. I've always lived my life that way and continue to do so, REGARDLESS of who makes the comment. I don't see racism down party lines. I know there's a bunch of ignorant bigots on both side of the fence. All one has to be is gay or lesbian and you can see it.

Don't include me in your Hatfield/McCoy-like analogies on this one.

Democrats are the true racists. Plain and simple. Game over. They use the race card, and exploit minority groups yet send their Beckys to nice private whitey schools away from big black men.

Mr. Reid and Biden were not racist by calling Obama as a better speaking "black" person. All Americans not only blacks should learn how to speak properly and intellectually.

We can't allow this country sink into ghettoism and ignorance.

Nobody, African Americans particularly, should be offended if anyone remind them to stop whining about Affirmative Action.

Other minorities particularly Asians never ask for special favor in public policies.

DR. MLK was fighting for EQUAL RIGHTS for MINORITIES not SPECIAL RIGHTS and FAVOR above the MAJORITY.

It's time for everyone particularly African Americans to take some sense of personal responsibilities instead of crying foul about racism whenever
anyone point out what are wrong in their communities.

Listen to Bill Cosby and Barack Obama talking about teenage pregnancy, about ignorant and irresponsible black males making babies here and there without any sense of parenthood and responsibility.

Does it hurt ? Maybe. But the truth hurts as always.

Look, facts is facts. The PC police will be all over me for this, but it is probably true that if Obama were "dark skinned" and spoke with a "negro dialect" he would have been less likely to have been elected. Should Reid have said it? No. Should he apologize? Yes. But frankly, it's only mildly more offensive, and arguably true, than it was when Biden called Obama "articulate".

Ridiculous! The issue isn't whether a majority of caucasions still suffer under racist beliefs and would only choose a "safe" light skinned Black candidate for president, the issue is whether Reid made a racially offensive statement. And the answer is yes.

What is "Negro Dialect?" -

Reid should should be gone for saying that alone. The post above is why. That one sentence "primed the pump" of racism and actually has a bunch of so called liberals defending it. Disgusting.

If any republican were Senate Majority Leader and they made those racist and offensive remarks they would be ousted...after roasting them alive in the media.

Oh. My. God. I made the huge, huge, HUGE mistake of using "view post" to look at-literally for the first time ever--Trannity's post above. It's every bit as vapid and obtuse as I remembered it being. If there were a single point worth responding to, I would, but it's going right back on Ignore where it belongs.

Hey, Trannity, are you ever going to tran-up and take out that phony gender identification from your profile?

not to mention, all Dem platforms and strategies tendentiously center on racial and other ascribed categories, in accord with their leftist ideology

indeed, all one has to review the postings from the obvious lib dems on the board to see how central a sense of racial differentiation is to their world-view, even using it as a litmus test, and anyone who deviates from that party line can pretty much expect the epithet of "racist" or "bigot", exactly as the Medieval Ecclesiastical authorities would toss the epithet of "heretic"

the strategy, of course, is to foreclose thought and discussion (witness the earlier posts in the thread)

cf.:

Like every other form of collectivism, racism is a quest for the unearned. It is a quest for automatic knowlege -- for an automatic evaluation of men's characters that bypasses the responsibility of exercising rational or moral judgment -- and, above all, a quest for an automatic self-esteem (or pseudo-self-esteem).

Racism

hence, the lib dem platform is automatically authenticated, justified and easily sold to the claimed beneficiaries, and any opposition automatically undercut

pure demagoguery

Of ALL people to even preach about issues surrounding Racism.

the issue is whether Reid made a racially offensive statement. And the answer is yes.

And yet, the people who are supposed to be offended by the comment, primarily the "blacks", are NOT. Let the people who are supposedly targeted with the statements let you know when they're offended.

What is "Negro Dialect?"

If you can't figure out that this refers to "slang" then you're an idiot.

Last time I checked, the senator that called Obama "uppity" still has a job. Just like the idiot who called him a "liar" during one of his speeches, the one that referred to him as "that boy", the moron from SC who made a racist comment about him on Twitter back in the summer, or the other dimwit who used Facebook to racially attack him after his speech preempted a Charlie Brown special. Need we go on?

Stop with the bullshit.

You once again are wrong. The majority of people with common sense agree that his remarks were poorly chosen. Now let me break it down so that your simple mind can understand. The words were poorly chosen and wrong because they are racist and offensive...and so called Democrats and/or Liberals don't want to burn Reid at the stake for it because those so called Dems and Liberals have a double standard.

Slang for what? Racist and Offensive remarks.

Speaking of dialect... friends of mine that are both of the African-American persuasion brought up that Obama sounds like Chris Rock when he imitates an old white dude. Guess that makes them racists, much less spot on.

Interesting. How were they persuaded and how did it actually come down. I mean, what were the arguments and inducements? Did it happen all of a sudden or graudally? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hey, lookie! Blanket statements, tired partisan rhetoric, repeating it over and over and hoping that some people may start to believe it.

Get a new act. The Junior High School debate team called and they want their shtick back.

Name calling and a vapid, obtuse and off topic response because you have nothing good say regarding your ridiculous defense of Harry Reid. Of course.
