He’s so fucking gorgeous. Why isn’t he doing Vikings or some kind of Nordic saga character. He’s perfect for that!
he played thor in american gods. but that was a show with predominantly american/canadian actors and filmed mainly in canada and also in the u.s.
vikings is european actors and filmed in europe. chances are they're not looking for small american actors to fly over.
if he were to land a role as a norse character, it'd probably be in marvel.
i could see him playing apollo or midnighter if dc ever had the balls to bring those characters to the screen. although idk if derek would be interested in playing a gay character or not

Most of the original principle actors of the original Vikings show were based in the U.S. or Canada. (Travis Fimmel is Australian but his acting career is based in the U.S.) None of them were particularly "big" when the show launched. Vikings: Valhalla co-lead Sam Corlett is also Australian.

looking at the valhalla cast, there's a heavy european cast, and then you also have people like sam who aren't european but can pass as such.
perhaps they're only looking for people with accents? idk i never watched the show.
but it's also possible that he never auditioned for the original vikings and since this one seems to be filmed in europe, even if he was a possibility, he wasn't interested in moving to europe for the duration of the filming

Derek is rare. He looks like a combination of Chris Pratt, Jamie Dornan, and Chris Evans. He's also as equally appealing with facial hair as he is without it. It really isn't all that surprising that he isn't utilized more in Hollywood. They probably hold the preconception that 'he can't act' against him. I say, it's their loss. Personally, I think he comes across as very charismatic, charming, and just plain likeable. He also seems very genuine and down-to-earth. I used to think about him starring in a rom-com with Jesse Bradford...however, this was years ago. For some reason, I just think they would have major chemistry together. Perhaps Hollywood isn't the place for him. Only time will tell. In any event, I wish him the best of luck in whatever he does. Derek's extremely talented and he'll only get better with time (especially in the looks department). Just imagine, Derek as a 'silver fox.'

You're surprised about this? It's always been like that.
So many men have spoken up about how they were type casted as himbos and couldn't get serious roles. Most of the Baywatch men have spoken on how they were practically either blacklisted or were only cast in roles where they had to constantly strip down. Even Jason Momoa said he could barely get parts.

Depp and Pitt are pretty much the only ones who were considered "studs" and good actors.

And if Comedy is your thing? It's far worst.
There have been lots of documentation about how all male comedians are either unattractive, attractive in a "non threatening manner" or are very attractive but must fully push some horrible personality gimmick - Like Jeselnik's jerk facade.

Comedians that were successful and then decided to start working on their looks have almost always completely lost their comedic careers.
