I know all of you been going through some harsh times , did the pandem give you a new perspect on life? What things did you do during quarantine that you wouldn't have gotten to do if the pandem didnt happen. Once the pandems over will you go back to your old habits.

I spent April fucking on acid with my fuck buddy. That was an eye opener. :)

I have also turned into some kind of teenage vampire, it seems. I very rarely go to bed before 4am and frequently stay in bed 'till lunch. I do this because I find the days drag.

New perspective on life?
No. People die every day from one thing or another. The virus went after the old and weak. I keep myself in good health thru diet and exercise. No smoking. No drinking. No drugs. And I'm quite content not having those in my life.
My job is qualified as "essential". So, not much changed for me. I worked as usual.
Only snag we had to deal with for a bit was all the gyms closing. But, we have equipment at home that kept us going until they opened.
Once this garbage is all over,I don't see any reason to change my habits.

My sympathies lie with the families that don't have an "essential" worker and are looking down the barrel of Xmas. Especially if they have kids.

No. I learned long ago we are interlopers in a microbial world.

I'm semi-retired and the little work I do is from home. I've had much less sex with many fewer partners which I plan to change when vaccine efficacy is established. Other partners tell me they look forward to picking up where we left off.

Other than that I've had a little less alcohol & food, maintained exercise habits and lost eight pounds which feels good.

COVID doesn't discriminate on age and personal health. It is going after everyone, even those that don't smoke, drink, and have good eating habits.

10 Year old dies of COVID
Fit, healthy nurse hospitalized for 6 weeks due to COVID
19 year old college student dies from COVID

I could list more, but honestly, there are way too many deaths at this point. Please don't assume you are safe, or immune, because you aren't over 70 years old.

As to the OP's question, it did change how I go about things, and shift my priorities. Perspective on life? No, not really.

At this point, I'm just waiting until later next year when vaccines make the rounds, and we can begin to shift back to "normal". At least for us in Canada, the vaccines will be free.

You can keep your dramatic swoon and overblown cautions to yourself, thanks.
Survival rate at this point is above 99%.
I don't think I'm "safe" or "immune"... But, I know the numbers and reality of the situation.
While you folks are clamoring for the new, shiny vaccine, think of this: Even if you don't have concerns about it being fast-tracked thru the normal steps.... For decades, the flu kills 45,000 - 65,000/year. The measles killed 200,000 last year.... And they both have vaccines.

Oh, you're one of those people.

I wish the rest of the people in your country all the best. It is difficult to manage a pandemic that has become politicized, and minimized, by people with a counter agenda, who feed off inaccurate and blatantly false information.

Yes. The proper term is realist.
Go back to assuming the fetal position while watching CNN now.

I'm not sure why you are resorting to being insulting in your replies. However, that aside, I will try to educate you. Granted, we did have an exchange on this same topic a couple of months ago, and your education level on the pandemic hasn't changed, so.. One more time.

No, COVID is not the flu

This is why COVID and the flu are vastly different

It is misleading to say COVID has a 1% mortality rate

This is what "surviving" COVID can mean for your long-term health

I live in Canada, not the US, and our news feed is much more informing than CNN. Our leaders, and scientists, have not politicized/denied the information like a lot of the US leaders have. We, like the rest of the world, are actively trying to survive, reduce infection rates, and keep our country from becoming what is currently happening in the US.

To be clear: the US is the example the rest of the world is trying to avoid.

Like it or not, you are imploding as a nation. Your health care system is on the verge of collapse. What do you think is going to happen after that? So, rather than digging in your heels and being a part of the systemic problem your country is suffering from, do better.

Suck it.
Watch and get real world numbers.
Also, bonehead, never said it was the same as the flu. It *is* in the same category, however...
And I never made any mention on those with long-term effects.
So, pack that one back where you got it.
I'm not one of the lunatics you see on tv, waving an American flag from the back of their pickup truck, going on and on about what looks like crap wrapped in the flag.
You are right. The healthcare system here is awful. Money driven and corrupt to the max.
Me wearing a mask and hiding indoors won't fix that.
I'm doing what people should do.... Exercise, eat healthy, avoid toxins like cigarettes and alcohol, hell...I even go one better and look for alternative treatments for things instead of running to get meds.
Truth be told, we've been looking to leave this place.
It's up to the individual to assess the risks and take action.
I know the risks (much better than you, btw) and make decisions daily on how to conduct my life.
Don't like it?
Don't care.
Life is full of risk.
Die on your feet or live on your knees.

I'm sorry that your news source is "Valuetainment" from YouTube.

Try the CDC. Or the WHO.

No not really thing haven't really changed that much. There hasn't been anything to really change my perspective on life. There isn't really anything different I do in quarentine that I wouldnt have done before. Aside from lectures being on zoom pretty much everything is the same.

... Which is where he got his numbers.
.. Which you would've known, had you watched it.
So much for you learning anything lol
I'm sorry you're so dimwitted that you don't look at all the information & not just the stuff that agrees with you.

I knew this would become a political thread (political view and virus get bunched together...). This is our new reality I guess.

For me? I was laid off in April after complaining about out lack of cleaning around the facility. Folks were allowed to go home sick and come right back. I lost a coworker and another friend to the virus. They were both in their 50's but very healthy... So my view is skewed to many I guess.

Since I saved for this "rainy day", I decided to not work till I decide it's right for my wife and I. We've both learned we enjoy each others company still <g>. I enjoy my time doing projects around the house. My home music studio is a blessing. I record songs, send them to a couple friends who adds their parts, then send the tracks back for mixing. Very fun! I hike and bike the local area a lot more. Being here in LA with our weather, I'm really getting back to enjoying being out and present each moment. I have a 10 year blur of just working. Few vacations, rarely off sick. Now I see the world thru a different set of eyes. We have more sex now. And yet I enjoy more time online playing with others thru chat or even cam. My other "live" friends and I in the same situation often talk about the "work/life balance". WE WERE ALL REALLY UNBALANCED! I still get contacted several times a month for jobs that offer long hours and great pay. In my 30's thru 50's I would jump on them. Not now.

As Feris Buller famously said "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it".

The pandemic has just reminded me just how fortunate I am.

Even while the US response is a giant shitshow I have been lucky enough to be able to work from home and find a remote schooling situation for my kids that doesn't prevent me from focusing on my job. I know all too many parents are having to make decisions on which one will quit their job to watch the kids (or who have been let go from a job) and am so glad I haven't had to deal with that. The 2 days I did have to cover my kid's remote schooling were the worst!
