Hi guys and gals,

I am a guy and have been reading this forum on and off for the last 7 years. A lot of the content was very informative on sex/relationships or psychology.

I am not sure if I have ever seen a question related to whether the erection from/during sex is different from the one from masturbation. Do you guys, or gals who know their boyfriends well noticed any differences in either length/girth/rigidity or all of them?

Thanks in advance!

Well I mean the getting of an erection is a physiological process. How hard you get is largely related to how turned on you are. Some porn can really turn me on and give me a super hard boner, so can a person.

What I find is different is the duration of being turned on. The specific part of a porn movie that really turns me on tends to be rather short whereas when I'm with someone the turn on is, apart from a few ups and downs, continuous. I also leak a lot of precum when with someone but nowhere near as much to porn. Sometimes a porn clip will contain all the right elements that make me leak pre like mad but those are few and far between and also short lived. With a real person this is very different.

I know you asked masturbation vs sex and I've turned this into porn vs sex. But I very rarely masturbate without porn.

Hi MacnmanMatt,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I have observed the same thing - the erection is the same.
For me, the duration varies as well, depending if its with a person or just watching porn.

I have discussed this once with an acquaintance, who said that his erection sometimes varied even depending on the girl, and was curious to know how it's with others.

Masturbating is pretty much consistent, since I know what to expect from my hand.

For sex, often, when I'm with a new partner, my erection is difficult due to some performance anxiety. Getting comfortable and deep into the action is just another reason giving lots of foreplay helps.

If I'm with a partner that I've been with before and feel comfortable around, you could spot my hard on from the nearest air control tower. Sex is that much more pleasurable than masturbating and I get harder than if it was just my hand, but it takes some time getting comfortable first.

MancmanMatt, you really said it well. I follow pretty much the same pattern as yours with regards to level of arousal, erection level and leaking precum dependent of whether it is masturbation vs sex with someone. The one thing that has been observed from me as well is my penis will be in a state of semi-erect post sex for awhile where as most of the time this will not happen on a masturbation session unless I've been going at for a long, time. It's like your mind and body knows the difference and therefore the reactions are more intensity. I think.

I have observed the same thing - the arousal level and even orgasm from masturbation are pretty much the same for me every time, regardless of what I watch.
