I’ve observed IRL and on this site, that gay men and trans are much more likely than straight women to: be aroused by dick pics (by a lot); use dildos; hookup for casual sex; be turned on by physical beauty (flat abs, muscles, handsome faces) are turned on by raunchier stuff (swallowing cum); message other LPSG members to sext or give compliments.

Also, female LPSG and social media users are far less likely to comment and like male photos and albums but just as likely to post pics/vids of themselves to receive likes/comments (exhibitionist).

Im thinking it’s caused by males having higher testosterone, especially during fetal development, which creates an arousal system more responsive to visual stimuli, and also a greater urge to seek out sex. But I’m not entirely sure.

I guess I’m wondering from a woman’s perspective why you think this is. Is it all about hormones? Or is there a cultural trigger? Or do you all even agree there are huge differences between male and female sexual arousal?

It's hard for me to comment since I've a) never been male, and b) don't post racy pics.

Yes, I have been called an exhibitionist, but I know better than to put myself online in the raw where I lose all control of my images. I never had a shy bone in my body, but real life is the only life for me.

Pics and videos don't really do much for me. Notice I said for me and not for all women. Despite my ongoing campaign I've still yet to be elected spokesperson for all women. But I will preserver even though I know how splintered the voting is.

Why they don't excite me I really can't say other than it would really be frustrating if they did, and I couldn't do a thing about it.

Having never been a man, straight or gay, I have no idea why we might think differently. It’s likely testosterone, but I don’t know that for sure. Men and women both have varying levels. So does this mean a high libido woman, or one that gets off on pics has a higher level of testosterone? Maybe, maybe not.

What I don’t like about the hormonal theory, is that it’s a fait accompli. Done deal. Men have zero control. Be beautiful on the outside, and any man is your slave. It’s demeaning to men. There are men of depth. They are not a slave to their visual desires. They don’t have to like spitting on their lover, or like gaping holes. And women are not delicate creatures, seeking soft music and candlelight. Both sexes vary greatly.

If it is hormonal, I’d like to think socialization can counteract it. That women can be freer with their sexuality and men can be thoughtful about their desires.

As a woman, I used to have an extensive gallery here. Sure I liked the compliments, but I posted those pics as an extension of my sexual nature. But many men think pics are an excuse to degrade a woman. That nudity is an invitation when it is not. I took down my galleries. I don’t need validation. And I preferred being treated like a full person, instead of a one dimensional creature.

So whether it’s hormonal or not, both sexes need to do better.

I’m not familiar with hormonal theory. It sounds interesting-would you mind saying a bit more about it?

Thanks LaFemme.

I'm not saying men are simple, but maybe in some aspects they tend to be a lil less complicated.

I want to see, hear, feel my way to arousal. Not just one.

I don't know about hormones, because I produce hormones like a man. I have a full beard/mustache that I pluck daily to prove it. I stack muscle similar to the way men do. My reproductive system doesn't work properly because of it. So maybe it's more than just a difference in hormones.. cuz I still don't get into the mood the same way men tend to even though I have a more similar hormone profile to them than the average woman.

One reason to not post images is some persona will use them as their own. There is also a safety concern.

At one paper, I wrote a column. My picture was, of course at the top. I designed the bug, and I traded the photo occasionally as a running joke. My fave weird shot was me in a Seussian knit hat.
My hours were such that laundry had to happen at off times. The only 24 hour (ish...they’d randomly close when it was slow) laundry was a bottom floor of a house the next town over. Granted, that was only six miles, but these towns were so small there were unpopulated gaps. Open land between the towns marked “not town” rather well.
So I’m out there, finishing a few loads of laundry, folding the last. My own delicates. This is before cell phones were ubiquitous. I didn’t have one. I don’t recall anyone there having one.
I’m alone. It’s dark. There’s one door.
I’m lost in the meditativeness of folding (the only grace I have with laundry is I’m experienced in sort of not being there), and a voice makes me jump.
A Dude, 320 is he's an ounce, is standing a foot away...and at 320+, a foot away is in contact.
“Whatcha doing there ______(uses my name.i have NEVER seen him)?”
He is leering at the basket of underthings.

That is from a face photo. Clothed.
Any wonder why my less clothed photos are only for my Love? Who uses technology but doesn’t trust on line to the point where his own Web page has languished for years?

I’m also going to say this: while we have calm and polite and thoughtful gay men on LPSG, the majority of active gay men on here act like teenagers. They act toward the straight guys in a similar fashion that straight guys act toward women generally.
Objectifying, attempting trickery, kind of rape threatening behaviour.
So many posts about “getting” or “tricking” a straight guy into homosexual contact. Stories of molestation while someone was sleeping. Stories that stayed up under the previous owner. Now, not so much, thankfully. They get deleted.
But such a notch on the bedpost mentality.

While I wish we as humans could lay off on such crass and yeah, violent behaviour, I do appreciate that the guys are getting a dose of their own poison.

There’s not really much more. It’s nature vs nurture, really. Hormones being the major cause of sexual behaviour, among other things. How much does culture and socialization affect behaviour vs purely biological reasons, including genetics.

But isn’t the fact that a 320 lb guy would actually track you down (while women would never do that for sex) a sign that men have something like hormones driving them to pursue sex even in the most creepy ways?

Btw I’m not saying he can blame hormones because he was wrong for doing that regardless.

It was more he recognized someone and was creepy about it.
I don't trust men not to be creepy. they have had social okay to be this way.

Why are you asking women about male arousal
I’m curious to hear reasons women have for not being aroused by dick pics and other physical attributes.

I’m wondering if it’s hormone related. Or something cultural- like guys gew up watching porn and being horndogs while girls grew up slut-shamed.

Everything is hormone related. You asked your question because of your hormones. So that's beside the point. But no, most women's disinterest in dick pics is not because of culture. I think the simplest answer is that for most women, it matters quite a bit who the dick is attached to. So random internet penis just isn't interesting.

Because less testosterone, correct? The random dick pics arouse gay men enough to find them “interesting”.

Back to the hormones you go. If you try to understand differences by assigning a simple, direct cause, you'll fail. Men and womens' brains work differently.
