So I thought I would ask this question since I don't know any gay people personally in life I can't ask them this question. Of course anyone could use one just figured I'm gay so would ask my fellow gay men :D

What should I look for in a dildo? Any recommendation on where and what to buy?

I figured they would all be standard or something. I didn't know if some are safer than others or something.

I know it seems like a silly question, but since I honestly have no clue this is kind of my last effort instead of just randomly ordering one from the internet.

Myself, of the three I have, this one is #1 on my list. Can't go wrong with this one. Look at all the ripples it has. It just opens and closes your ass multiple times each stroke. It's awesome.

I have one that is bigger. But I prefer this one for every day anal stimulation.

You want one that is softish and flexible. I have one that is a great size 8.5X7 but it's so hard it gives too much resistance when going in. I can only use it when I'm really opened up. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you can go really deep you want length. If you want to see what you can fit you want girth. If you want to learn to go really deep you want long (9") or more to get into the second "opening" but you would want it slim to practise with.

Novaboy, exactly!! perfect description. . in my mind, you need three dildos. start with a double headed relatively thin dildo. . . it serves two purposes. allows you to get opened up , and also explores that second opening, deep inside. then go for a thick one to explore the sensation of girth. . . and then MAYBE a thick and long one. for more extreme play. i have always found the 18" regular thickness double header is great, because it gives you a nice handle to work with, and lets you explore any depth you want.

Flesh dildos attached to a hot man are the best :biggrin1:

Inexperienced and not even out yet so dating terrifies me, but working on myself so figured I would look into buying something to help me. Fingering was good for the first month, but looking for something better. The next step if you will :p

Thanks for replies. OneHungryMouth the one you described sounds awesome.

So basically beginner guy here. Any recommendations on where to buy one? Also like what kind? I know theres silicone and glass and maybe other stuff totally not sure. Sorry.

Browsed some on amazon, but have no clue if I should buy from there.

Sorry weird questions I know.

What should I look for in a dildo?
The most important thing to look for in a dildo is something non-toxic. That means silicone, borosilicate glass, or stainless steel.

As you're a novice on the matter I'd avoid metal and glass for now as obviously they're very firm materials and not so gentle on your insides. Silicone is the best flexible material for dildos; it bends around inside your body, it has enough give in the surface to be gentle on your sphincter, and it's a food-grade material so you know it's safe. It can be a little more expensive though, but it's worth it.

Avoid cheap "jelly" and PVC toys as they're not good for your health and give off a terrible smell. They contain chemical plasticisers known as "phthalates" which give flexibility to what otherwise would be a rigid material. These chemicals are banned in food products and children's toys as they can leech into your body and cause health complications, but sex toys aren't regulated in the same way. For the same reason avoid some of the more expensive "real feel" materials as there's no telling exactly what's in them.

For a first time dildo, size wise I'd say no thicker than 1 1/2", and try to get something with a tapered tip. You can get some amazing dual-density silicone dildos from companies like Tantus and Vixen Creations, which have a firmer core and a squishy head to make them feel more realistic as well as more comfortable, and they will blow your mind, but expect to pay quite a lot for them. They're an investment as they'll last almost indefinitely, but you might be reluctant to spend so much on a first toy.

Any recommendation on where and what to buy?
I can recommend places depending on where you live. Lovehoney operates in both the UK and the US, and ships worldwide. I recommend them mostly for their returns policy; if you buy something and hate it, then even if you've used it they allow you return it to them for a full refund, so it's a complete no-risk purchase.

Lovehoney UK website and Lovehoney US website.

I hope that helps.

Yes! the double header 18" long about 6 girth or so. Great handle, flexible and long! I can get 15" of it in not problem.
