"Earlier in the week, a fake image of a news ticker reading “Irma Now Contains Sharks” emerged on social media . . . The image seems to be a reference to 2013 movie Sharknado . . . Many sharing the image on social media accepted it as fact."

God help us all.

Trumplike shitalk tweets

On Tuesday, right-wing radio provocateur Rush Limbaugh claimed the media was intentionally exaggerating threats about Hurricane Irma to advance a "climate change agenda" and enable local businesses to make money off of emergency preparation efforts. On Thursday, Limbaugh indicated he will evacuate South Florida ahead of the storm.

I watched tv all day yesterday and saw report after report from the virigin islands. I didn't see one report on Ted Cruz' twitter feed.

We were watching different stations I guess. Even CNN's homepage had nothing about VI yesterday (just Florida), but did have a link to Ted Cruz's tweet.

Right now on TV, CNN is talking about Hilary Clinton's book, HLN is talking about hot cops, CNN international is talking about Hillary Clinton's book, CNBC is talking about immigration policy, Fox News is talking about Trump's travel ban.

Here, since apparently you have access to some suite of cable channels that covers different news than I do, here's a source you can give more weight than my opinion:
On the U.S. Virgin Islands, anger and resentment after Irma
Residents are receiving minimal attention from media or the federal government.

Edit: Cnn has switched to talking about Florida right now. I'll let you know if they say anything about USVI.

Newp. Now they're talking about DACA and whether or not there's a deal with Trump.

CNN just got done w/ over 30 mins of hurricane coverage. All of it was about Florida with the bulk being about the deaths at a nursing home. Now they're back to talking about Hillary Clinton's book again.

Yeah, you're gonna have to let me know what news station you watch.

I've been flipping through them periodically, and they're just cycling between DACA, Hillary Clinton stuff, Russia stuff, Trump visiting FL, and the nursing home deaths. None of them are talking about ongoing difficulties in US territories in the carribean.

freud be damned... it's a big dick website and size matters

i'd suggest that size/ population numbers have everything to do with the reasoning/coverage
population of the usvi = 102,000
population of houston = 4 million
32,000 displaced
estimates of 450,000 seeking fema disaster relief
http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-hurricane-harvey-by-the-numbers-20170830-htmlstory.html

florida has 21 million people... 15 million without power as of 9/13

Certainly. My parents live in Fort Myers, I'm not diminishing the situation there.

But there is a lot of news media time being spent on trivial items right now that could be used on the situation in USVI and elsewhere. I have MSNBC on now and they just got done talking about Trump's tax returns...

If you scroll up, my original complaint isn't that they were covering FL and not USVI, it's that they're covering crap like Ted Cruz's porn likes and not USVI.

don't worry folks your president is on the path and according to him the electric is coming back on line all over the place as he spoke... but then he was still in WASHINGTON.....

Yes, he's in Florida now and spent some time discussing how awesome of a job he's doing, how fast his response has been, and suggesting that gov scott should run for senate.

Puerto Rico is becoming Trump's Katrina:

SCANDALOUS
Puerto Rico Mayors Cry for Help: ‘They Should Know Better!’
Supplies are piling up in the capital, unable to get out to desperate villages, while local leaders drive hours to ask for aid in person.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—A week after Hurricane Maria caused unprecedented damage here, local officials are forced to contend with a new disaster: red tape.

Mayors are being forced to come to the capital’s convention center, where the government has set up a command center, to ask for help in person.

“Getting here, it’s about a three-hour drive that I can’t afford—because while hospitals are running out of fuel, I’m driving my car around like I have gas to waste,” said Rafael Surillo, the mayor of Yabucoa, the town where the eye of the Category 4 storm first made landfall.

“Do I really need to show up here? They should know better!” Surillo blasted with so much anger that the veins in his neck started to bulge.

“FEMA came twice to Yabucoa and nothing has yet to be done with our people. They came and collected all the information they wanted and we still await for their help to finally arrive,” Surillo told The Daily Beast, trying to keep composure.Surillo said Wednesday FEMA’s field visit was two days ago. Since then, people gather in the same plaza daily, hoping the agency will arrive with much-needed food, drinking water, and fuel to keep the hospital’s generators running.
