For shit sake....Ummmm humans... need help?? Is this forum typical of how US citizens react to their fellow citizens need of assistance?.....This small sample has given me a huge insight into just how US citizens pull together in need...............Not. Thanks for the education in how you guys view yourselves, then the world..

From what I can gather in this forum your all Hollywood and bullshit. Apart from Texas post about some random bloke trying to help.

You care more about guns than human beings..............got it.

I wish we all saw ourselves as one but unfortunately that is not the world we live in.
Racial issues are not the only ones but they should not be minimized or forgotten. Should the focus be on other issues and then once all those are solved focus can go back to issues of race?

This is more about the style than the substance. Don't know if you listened to that interview, but the Author is suggesting that there's a difference of approach when someone is trying to protest against an established power structure -vs- trying to seize control of a power structure and work from within it.

His suggestion is that Democrats right now are in a protest mentality / style which worked very well at points in history, but the way things are set up currently it's largely ineffective, particularly since the way that we protest issues can be particularly exclusive to segments of the electorate that we need turning out in greater numbers for a Democratic ticket if we're to have any chance of actually reclaiming positions of power in government other than the presidency.

One can talk about oppresion faced by persons of color without making people who are white walk away with the sense that the blame is laid on them.

One can protest the KKK and bigotry, for example, without cracking jokes that this is the inherent nature of Texans and that people being victimized by the flooding are getting what they deserve. You make a point to say that the victims are just that, but there are jokes made at their expense in this thread, in the joke thread in the etc etc forum, and in the media at large. Literally every single one of those jokes that I have heard has come from someone on the left. This is a problem.

This was Brisbane during flood.........
Just so you know. So, as a Brisbanite, I understand what people lose. It is heartbreaking.

Yes, the anonymous guy in the boat saved them.

If blaming something you find wrong for disasters is stupid then why did you post what you did? Oh, to score points.

I'm confused. But I suppose that's not surprising to anyone here.

And if "scoring points" is not a reason to post here, I think you're going to be busy making similar comments to many posts.

This does not show the half of it, in the middle of a capital city as you can see. I think tourists took the film.

I spose now that no-one believes rain is natures fault. It must be the fault of a politician...or some man made thingy.

Like here in Brisbane. Everyone wants to blame the guys at Wivenhoe....this is Wivenhoe damn...Brisbane. It holds more water than Sydney Harbour.......

Larger than just about every other dam in the world...........now we are going to make it twice the size https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/na...rs-in-900m-safety-revamp-20170404-gvdqbz.html

Hold more water back than the 3 gorges dam.....Funny when you think about it that the central part of Australia is one of the largest Deserts. The Simpson. One of me ancestors, Scottish dude :).

You have to understand the geography of Aus. It's like a large bowl. it is the reason why we are resource rich. Because back in the day of Gondwana we knew better.

Little bit emotional about that. Don't know why.

I'm all for a fair balance. How many others are?

Storm, chalk that all up to arguments that serve to legitimize and normalize hate speech. the PREMISE being that people hate and buy into hate based ideology and bigoted rhetoric because of the way "Democrats talk about racism."

"If only liberals would just shut up about it." Riiiiiiiiiiight.

I don't know who I find more repugnant, the people who buy into, endorse, and empower hate based ideology, or self flagellating SO-called liberals who give them excuses and free pass to DO so.

Seeing this from afar, and through the eyes of this thread, it may SEEM to you like US citizens don't care about what's happening (and I know from personal experience, what has YET to happen) to the victims of Harvey in Texas AND in my state.

But that is far from the truth as to what's actually happening.

Regarding this thread, YES the cartoons are highly offensive, considering what people are going through and will be going through even as we write. Certainly I have never written anything suggesting people got what they deserved, or where people shouldn't live. On the contrary, I've written the exact opposite.

That being said, let's not lose sight of the fact that this thread is titled "Disaster Relief & Donald Trump," started BY a Texan, for the purposes (presumably, judging from HIS o.p.) of focusing on policy making and legislation whose priorities are something OTHER than HELPING PEOPLE. Policies that tend to do a DISSERVICE to people in time of their greatest NEED.

Talking about mean-spirited policy making and laws that hurt PEOPLE is hardly an indication of not caring.

What I do know and have learned in my short time is that none of us are immune to what the planet may dish out, whether it be good, or bad. It's...well it's as unpredictable as the weather.

I remember my first Brisbane flood in 1974, of seeing nothing but a sea of water. All I saw of the homes was the tips of the roofs, the shock on peoples faces. The loss.

I was only a 16 year old teenager then, but I remember clearly the gratitude in peoples eyes to know they were not alone.

Know what you mean, Vib. For us, Katrina.

I think people who experience such a thing can't help but have some kind of emotional connection to anyone else who experiences it.

How do you know they didn't donate? Maybe, unlike Trump, they aren't seeking publicity.

Obama not seek publicity? ROFLMFAO! If Obama pitched in $100, he'd hold a press conference and CNN would be there fawning over him. Thanks for the laugh.

Put down the weed. You can't afford to lose the brain cell you have left.

Trump the chump is the one who craves his every move be publicized.

Now go have someone read his tweets to you.

Every political figure seeks positive publicity. Folks like Barack and Hillary would NEVER, of course, part ways with a dollar. Are you fucking kidding me? LOL!
The Orange One looks for the best way to make a buck. Charge the Secret Service for staying at his resort while guarding him. Wear a hat and then charge the rubes who go to your website to buy one. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave the million dollar donation and then charged the area two million for water and food.

To play any joke on you I would first have to consider you worthwhile.

Now...back under your bridge.
