I have said before, I think I'm maybe a bi male "living as" gay, because it is simpler, easier...

Men like black and white, simple structural categories. Women MAY be more able to understand layers, textures, a continuum. And that might get projected, by men, onto other people's sexuality.

So, men think it's possible for other people to just "make up their mind" about everything. Women know that that's far too much of an over simplification. Our stories are more subtle and complex ... And we don't control everything. Sometimes we need to respond, cooperate, develop ...

You make a very interesting observation regarding how many people would fall into the combination of bisexual and gay groups.

In today’s political climate where the Supreme Court is considering the issue of gay marriage, there is a constant rush by anti gay commentators to limit the gay population to around 2 percent of total. They do this in an effort to diminish the value of gays and same sex marriage. They like to say it is only 1-2 percent of the population so why should the rules be changed for those few people.

Most anti gay voices use this number knowing full well that the actual gay population figure is really closer to 15-20 percent of total. It would take only a quick read on Wikipedia to show there numbers are false.

I have yet to hear any anti gay spokesman deal with the idea that individuals who consider themselves bisexual might (should) also be included along with gays when equal rights issues are considered.

It would be interesting to know what percentage the sum of gay and significantly bisexual individuals would be. Your estimate of over half of the population may be a bit high, but then it may not be.

If our current government officials really wanted to know the numbers, they could devise a means for safely assessing them.

I ran into this last week from my radical Baptist neighbor. My response was that the Baptist Church is motivated to keep the numbers low so they can make people believe that their inactivity in recognizing it is valid. I suggested the next time he goes to church to look around and he might not want to believe it but every other person in there is trying to hide something for fear of rejection. The problem for them is that their participation has bottomed out at around 17% compared to 75% 25 years ago. They can close the doors and I wouldn't be disappointed. It's a cult in my opinion!

I think it has a lot to do with testosterone.
It's what makes a man go crazy.
It's what make a man say no to a blow job from another man when, if he were drunk and his inhibitions low, he might accept.
It's what makes a man want to fight another man over something totally stupid.
It's what makes a man continue to argue with his partner even when he realizes he is wrong.
It's what make one man shoot another man when he feels like he's been dissed.
It's the reason they castrate bulls.
That's my two cents.

The double standard exists because regular guys are just jealous I can nab his girlfriend AND his hotter brother. Poordat.

But honestly I think many guys find bis almost threatening. One thing I've noticed is that bi guys, while definitely understanding masculinity, don't feel bound to the same social chains as straight guys do, and are wayyyy more at ease with themselves while flirting than your typical bro.

I don’t want to turn the OP”s discussion into one on religion, but here is some feedback on your comment.

I grew up in Baptist Churches; so I feel the need to defend them just a bit as I believe much of their basic theology is sound. I still attend a conservative church for a number of reasons especially the privilege of being the resident heretic.

Your irritation with your neighbor is well founded. In far too many churches the followers are too busy echoing what their leadership is saying, be it fact or fiction. Neither the leadership nor the followers are asking good questions. What is more, the leadership does not encourage questions.

And here is the scary part. Most conservative church leaders encourage their followers to turn their passive ignorance into what can best be called a form of Believers Idolatry; that is they have come to worship their own discipline of worship. When this happens their mind becomes a closed book. This would help explain why there may be as many as 500 different Protestant denominations and about half that many Catholic.

Here is a question for your neighbor now that same sex issues are a common topic. Consider asking him if he or his fellow church members feel any responsibility for the many failed marriages and damaged lives that are a direct result of religious pressure and social condemnation experienced by true and Natural gay men. Men who were (and are) told that the only way they could find respect was to marry and have children even though this was not their Natural calling. These were Naturally gay men whose wives, children, extended families, and friends may have suffered great harm.

Ask him how he should deal with the fact that pressure from his group and others like them is directly responsible for causing many Naturally gay men to become (unnatural) practicing BISEXUALS with his church’s open approval and encouragement.

PS—I am not intending to reflect negatively on bisexuals here. What I am trying to do is agitate your neighbor in to thinking for himself through the manipulation of humiliation.
