Thank goodness this isn't the Post Office!
I haven't been paying too much attention to the 'schism' that has occurred in recent days..can you catch me up to speed? I take some members have up and quit the board.
I know... good grief

I'm reminded of those obnoxious people in restaurants who sit too close to the smoking section and then make loud coughing and gagging noises in order to passive-aggressively let the smokers at adjoining tables know what they think.
Harrumph! Hack! Hack! I could just move to a different table but first I want to tell you how superior I am to you.
It's a modus tollens argument they're implicitly advancing.
A decent person would not stand for this.
I'm not standing for this, but you are.
Unfortunately we had a poster who was plagiarizing others' works as his own and was called on it by a couple of the moderators. This set off a chain of events that escalated from a simple wondering how to handle this poster's discressions to the poster spamming the heck out of his detractors.
Angry with his reaction to their heartfelt guidance some of the moderators overreacted themselves and suggested some massive censorship of the board. Some of these things that challenged their sensibilites were newly posted, others had been posted on the board for some time.
Once called on this censorship activity by the board owner (who prefers minimal censorship, if any) many moderators and posters alike took umbrage at the board's content (mostly in Fictional Stories) and decided that their consciences would not allow them to stay with us at LPSG.
Their decision was to leave LPSG. It is regretable. They will be missed.
mindseye: That has to be the most diplomatic rendering of this week's events that I've read. Congratulations!

Could one explain the latin please (I took latin in the first year of Grammar school in Gibraltar but can't remember a damned word of it! except for Carpe Diem and Veni, Vidi, Vici (and I probably spelled that incorrectly!)).
I see...reaction against insest and other taboo topics I assume.
mindseye: Modus tollens is a form of structured argument -- sometimes called proving the contrapositive -- where the advocate shows that the conclusion has failed, and therefore the hypotheses could not have been satisfied.
Symbolically, it has the form:
If p is true, then q is true.
q is false.
Therefore, p must also be false.
Although modus tollens is a logically taut argument style, it fails if the implication statement ('if p is true, then q is true') is unjustifiable.
If censorship is bad, then I have tentacles growing out of my head.
I do not have tentacles growing out of my head.
Therefore, censorship is good.
The argument fails because the 'if' statement is not convincingly true.
Hope that helps.
gigantikok: I honestly think these chain of events and departure of posters would not have happened if Max hadn't left. It seems to me that Max pretty much left because he was getting harassed by another member, and only used the child porn as another excuse to strengthen his departure. Then other people used the questionable material in Fictitious Stories as an excuse to follow. These same people who left due to the questionable material had not even noticed or cared it was around before. It isn't like the first ever child porn/beastiality story was posted 3 days ago. Nope. They had been posted for months, and months ago people weren't deleting their memberships. It confuses me. It was like a domino effect. One person tipped the first over and it started a chain reaction.
awellhungboi: you may be right, Gig, but I'd like to amend something you said--while there were a couple of bestiality stories, and a couple of others that some might find objectionable, I read everything in there and I don't think there was any child porn in the F.S. then or now.

In Maximillian's and Sammygirly's defense, they had both posted objections back in September to a story about incest. They had noticed before, and cared enough to say something then.
gigantikok: So if there isn't/wasn't any child porn, what the hell are people objecting about? The fact that at any point there may be child porn posted, and when it happens it will be allowed?? That's no way to live your life. You can't just trudge along and disconnect yourself from something due to any little hint of possible trouble. What the hell?? Most people that left were simply protesting to child porn! I don't even think those people knew the facts, I sure didn't! I think a lot of these people left because they assumed at any one point there was or had been child porn in the FS section. Oh man. This really makes me angry. Seems to me like we lost a lot of good posters due to a misconception or misunderstanding. As it came off to me, most of our ex-posters were willing to stay if there were stories of incest or beastiality, but it was child porn that really drove them over the edge.
TO ANYONE THAT LEFT WHO MAY BE READING THIS:
COME BACK! There are and were no child porn stories! Come back and if any child porn stories ARE EVER posted, THEN maybe you can consider leaving.
Jesus... this is ridiculous...
palladen: Amen Gig.
For my part, I too am tired of this. While I feel that type of posting is extremely distasteful and plagarism is the sign of a lazy mind, no one makes anyone read any posts on this board. I do believe eyes, and a mouse click/ scroll are necessary.
The IM spam was, IMHO, frankly a bannable offense.
Come on back, y'all.
awellhungboi: well, that's just my judgement on the stories I read, Gig . . . others have to make their own decisions on what they find acceptable or not, I guess.
But I think I've just about exhausted everything I have to say about this! Best wishes to those who are gone, but I'm ready to get back to normal.
On to a new topic. Magnificent one... is that new avatar the real you? If so, it's decidedly gothic and mod...
H8Monga: *reads my old logic book*
Why can't I ever remember stuff that actually means something?! I am so... ILLOGICAL!!!!

HUMONGOUS: Maximillian and Sammygirly will be missed---there is no doubt about that. However it is best that they were forced out as they were inhibiting freedom of expression by censorship. I applaud the memo from Mark and thank him wholeheartedly for his views oppossing censorship. The tactics employed by Max and Sammygirly were tantamount to censorship and a board as important as this should not engage in such a practice.
I do beleive the somewhat "heavyhanded" approach used by Max and the snide, condescending demeanor of Sammygirly was responsible for a lot of members leaving. I have spoken with several former members who have attested to that. However I will not condemn them for expressing their views as they condemned me for expresing mine. I wish them the best of luck in their new endeavors. I would also like to take the time to thank Dee and Mark for their intervention. It was most appreciated. May cooler heads prevail now that the conjoined twins have left.
mindseye: We haven't spoken before, and while I respect your views, I think everyone on here will agree that bombarding a user with hundreds of IMs is not only abusive to that user, but also to Mark whose bandwidth you wasted.
