in many cultures, especially eastern cultures, bowing is the proper greeting and is the way you show respect towards others. the president bowed to the emperor to show his respect, not to insult americans. what would've been insulting is if the president refused to bow to the emperor.

and besides, whatever happened in WWII should stay in WWII. this is the 21st century and our countries have made amens since then. yes, i know, i didn't fight the wars and shed blood, sweat, and tears so our children can live better lives, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. but what i do i know is when to stop holding grudges and how to keep up with the times.

People take issue with how low he bowed, I guess. Some are saying it's too low, and blahblahblah.

It's all crap, and more evidence of how much of a joke politics has become. It's not even politics anymore, it's just try-to-smear-the-other-guy. Heck, tons of people on this site do it too. It's like a disease.

usually the lower you bow it means you have a greater respect for the person you are bowing to. i never knew americans were so opposed to showing respect for others. geez

aside from that, i agree with everything else stated.

How many of you saw the picture of the president of the United States (11-15-09) in today's papers and TV news, bowing to the emporer of Japan? Bowing to the emporer of Japan of all people. Dosen't our kid-president know that Japan, under the rule of this emporer's father, killed over two million Americans during the War in the Pacific during WWII? And our guy is bowing to the leader of Japan? What an insult to the Veterans of the War in The Pacific who went through living hell to win that war over japan.

Where the hell did you get that? The total American deaths of WW2 were around 300,000. So, right off the bat you loose a large portion of your credibility to me. Besides, what is the problem with Obama bowing and respecting the emperor of Japan? I suppose you are against trying to fix relations, like how people tried to amend US-Vietnam relations after the Vietnam War.

I am proud of our president who understands protocol and doesnt rhrow up on world leaders like GHW Bush did some years ago, or give unwanted shoulder and back rubs to the leader of Germany like Shrub did just 2 years ago.
