OH...I thought I was the only one who rememberd when it was a nice store...be careful you are going to date yourself!

No, you are not alone, there are many of us who remember it as a rather nice (if a bit pricey) sporting goods store.

I don't get the allure of their clothing, either, but then, there's another 50 year old for you...

I've never bought anything from A&F, although, I do make a point of, at least, passing by the store everytime I'm at the mall, on account of they occasionally pay nearly-naked hardbodies to just stand around by the entrance for who knows what reason. Public Service, I guess.

I can't say I'm a fan of their clothes, but I do rather enjoy their humanitarian endeavors.

That being said, NO! Not all gay men shop at Abercrombie...only the stereotypical ones. They also all go to clubs called "Twinkies" or "the Mineshaft" and they all drive Jettas.
Really? The gay men I know drive Passats, Camry Convertibles, Mercedes Benz, and Escalades.

:biggrin1: I'm more likely to shop at The Leather Rack than at Abercrummy & Swish.
tee hee hee Abercrummy & Swish :biggrin1: I like that one.

Everything at AF seems like it has been thru a shredder. I see it as thread worn derelict clothing. I personally do not fit in most all their clothes.
I haven't been able to fit into their stuff since I was about 34.

Well if you really want to shop and get laid too, go to Bergdorf Goodman!!!!
Now you're talking my language! :biggrin1: I do so love to spend a day there. The Cafe on 5 used to serve one of the best gourmet lunches in the city for under $10. In my wicked past I once convinced a vegetarian friend to try on a full length sable in their fur salon. She was so swept away by it's sumptuous softness she almost wept. She's a meat eater again and the proud owner of a few leather jackets and shearling coats. :biggrin1:  I miss my little lilac credit card.

I used to make all my selections exclusively at either The Salvation Army or Gimbel's Bargain Basement. Then I moved up to the donation boxes placed in the parking lot behind the Sears store and at the local park. Not much after that I took to grabbing whatever my neighbors left hanging on the clothesline and on a few desperate occasions I scrounged through their laundry bins and once in a while even lucked upon a warm set of togs in the electric dryer. (too bad they've all taken to locking their doors now)

Never been to Abercrombie and Fitch and never intend to be. My clothing is mostly J.C.Penney and an occasional K-Mart item and jackets (winter, autumn or spring) at Burlington Coat Factory--got a nice suede jacket for autumn at a fraction of the original price:smile: .

Abercrombie and Fitch are just so... boring! In fairness though so far every single fashion label I've seen in the last few years is just recyling the same thing over and over again: Jeans in various states of disrepair, T-shirts with subtle-as-a-brick sexual innuendo slogans that are supposed to be so very funny  and whatever that months accessory is.
Yawn!
I only started buying clothes again recently after I realised I needed more jeans for work (I have the best job EVER! :biggrin1:) and a few more tops and have totally fallen in love with Buden Akindo, Green Banana and Rainbowpill.

The thread title made me think of that song "I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch..." I had just succeeded in forgetting it after years of therapy, so thank you very much. :(

Nope...sorry, don't do A&F (though there are a few of those models that I'd not mind doing...)

I'd rather shop Tar-get, Gander Mountain (nice outdoor store), various outlet stores , Schottensteins/Value City for you Ohioans, or wherever I can find inexpensive but durable clothing at cheap...

I'm a frugal gay man...

David, do you know about the men's room on the mezzanine or second floor of the Bergdorf's men's store on Fifth Avenue? It has a reputation.

It is sometimes hard to find nice clothes these days that DON'T have a label showing somewhere, but I must admit to an increasing desire NOT to provide free advertising for these people.

I've been removing or having removed the label over the right back pocket of slacks for years (Polo, Banana Republic)....I have a lot of Polo dress-type shirts, which I like, one reason being that they usually don't have a pocket (and it would be impossible to remove the logo anyway without ripping the hell out of the shirt), but when I saw that they started putting the Polo player on sweat pants many years ago, I really thought they'd gone too far.

I've got a pullover, some cargo pants and some shorts from A&F that I don't wear anymore, but I never tried to take the labels off of those, not thinking that the A&F label was pretentious.

I remember going to the big A&F store in NYC with my dad when I was a kid. Back then it was a high end sporting goods store.
Yes it was. I still remember when A&F absorbed its predecessor in the high-end New York sporting-goods-store biz, Von Lengerke & Detmold, a bit after WW1. They weren't so big in street clothes then - more like guns, canoes, shooting jackets, yachting outfits, life-size cardboard cutouts of Ernest Hemingway, etc.
