I used to make all my selections exclusively at either The Salvation Army or Gimbel's Bargain Basement. Then I moved up to the donation boxes placed in the parking lot behind the Sears store and at the local park. Not much after that I took to grabbing whatever my neighbors left hanging on the clothesline and on a few desperate occasions I scrounged through their laundry bins and once in a while even lucked upon a warm set of togs in the electric dryer. (too bad they've all taken to locking their doors now)

Never been to Abercrombie and Fitch and never intend to be. My clothing is mostly J.C.Penney and an occasional K-Mart item and jackets (winter, autumn or spring) at Burlington Coat Factory--got a nice suede jacket for autumn at a fraction of the original price:smile: .

Die already!!! No just kidding. When a friend of mines Mother bought a 385.00 hat in 1986 he asked "why, Mother, why" "at 82 years old,why do you need a 385.00 hat"? She replied," Gordie, If you can't be in style you might as well be dead". I love and miss that woman but, I never had to wonder about gordon's sexuality again. A&F is for teenagers who can't afford anything more than tee shirts and jeans. Zero style(except catalogue, 1st year only)but, great marketing to the unknowing masses.

Take Care,

DavidBD

Well to start with "look around",single gay men, horny male couples and men with their fag hags! Hell even the clerks. One of them was more than willing to help me with a new pair of jeans in the dressing room. So when a clerk says "can I help you?" for gods sake don't say "just looking"! Say well I am looking for"blah blah blah bubbab obob bola" and he will bring it to you!

I shop at K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Target and several smaller local discount stores. I've been poor all my life and I've never felt the need to pretend I'm otherwise by spending all my money buying chi-chi clothes and shopping at trendy or high-end stores.

Guys it's not about PRETENDING or anything like that. It's about STYLE and looking good( see thread on triming pubes).Looking good shows all kinds of things, for instance Paris Hilton looks like dog shit, but she thinks she has style. The best thing about it is you can't buy it.

I don't really shop there but I've never lived anywhere near an A&F store. My boyfriend shops there online sometimes.

I remember a quote from many years back.

"FASHION is what you buy. STYLE is what you do with it."

Since I was old enough to understand what "trendy" meant, I have gone out of my way to avoid trendy fashions.

(And what's up with those silly jeans that have the bleached stripes in improbably places on the thighs and butt? Some of them just look dirty to me.)

I am not and will never be one of those Abercrombie Zombies you see everywhere.

I also don't own any Ginch Gonch underwear, Aussie Bum swimwear, Calvin Klein undwear or any of the "must have" gaywear. My one concession to gaywear is Armani. I own a number of suits, but it is the fact that they fit so well and not the name on the label.

Are these Armani jeans? http://www.lpsg.org/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/49472/cat/500/ppuser/108924 If not, come over to my place and take them off.

Thanks.

:biggrin1: There's a reason that, back in the early 1980s when "designer jeans" were becoming all the rage, that I called them "Calvin Klones."

And designer underwear? Designer t-shirts? Designer sweatpants? I just don't get it. Next thing you know, you'll be able to get Prada toilet tissue, a bargain at $150 per roll.

Buying an exceptionally well-made suit is not the same.

I have been in an Abercrombie and Fitch store once when some friends wanted to go shopping in there. I felt like I was too old to be in the store.

Still, a lot of gay men (including the aforementioned friends) shop there because they're aiming for a more youthful look. It's not working... :18:

I too am showing my age. I shopped at A&F when it was the original high-end store. Then for a number of years I took twice yearly shopping trips to Montreal and New York. Now its no longer $600 shoes and $300 shirts, I look for cheap and cheerful, but stylish.
