Here in Hampton Roads, Virginia there seems to be a pretty good mix of tops and bottoms but bottoms do seem to outnumber the tops. Most of the tops are military guys from the local bases though. To answer the original question, YES, it does appear bottoms out number tops. Not sure to what ratio but it is very disproportionate. I prefer to bottom because, as a previous post mentioned... once you discover the prostate, you can't give it up. Still, in this town where I live, I'm almost always the top. The urban legend does indeed seem to be the truth. And I think there are three reasons that can be identified:

1 - It's easier. Though it's not ideal, the bottom can basically lie there and be done to, rather than actually have to do the doing.
2 - The prostate. Once it's been discovered, it's hard to give it up.
3 - It's still taboo, looked down on by society, and therefore carries and extra thrill to add to the sexual excitement.

I'd say this observation is definitely true in New York City. When I was "dating" I was exclusively top. I would say that bttms do outnumber tops. I quit being a total bttm a few yrs ago cuz of it. I have moved east-west coast and went north and south. Military brat and was in military. I'd say what u say is partly true living in the area myself, but the actual locals are what I think the thread is aiming toward not the people popping in and out. Its well known after a deployment a guy will do whatever.
