Do cultures with public nudity worry less about having a big dick? Do you think if guys see each other regularly in public nudity situations, they're less worried about their own dick size? Some cultures are pretty open with public nudity eg: Japan, Iceland, whereas other cultures eg: USA, Australia, seem more worried about public nudity. If guys can see each others dicks more regularly, do you think they become less inclined to worry? Or do you think every culture is worried about dick size, and everyone wants a bigger one, and thinks everyone except them is well-hung?

Well, everyone knows that flaccid size is not a good indicator of erect size and, since public nudity situations do not normally involve erect penises, this is a pointless question. Isn't it?

The USA is "worried about public nudity" primarily due to the teachings of Evangelical Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church - both of which have traditionally been anti-sex, anti-nudity, and, generally, anti-fun of any kind

No, not a pointless question. Even if flaccid size isn't a great indicator of erect size, a trip to this or any number of message boards or a conversation with guys about being nude and size will indicate that a lot of people do care about flaccid size, even if they know it's not ultimately that important.

I would suspect that yes, more nudity would lead to less concern about penis size, primarily because guys would be exposed to more normal-sized cocks. For so many men, porn in the point of reference, and guys in porn tend to be big, even flaccid, and lots of pics of flaccid cock are photoshopped to make them look bigger. If public nudity was more normal, guys would see that most flaccid cocks are actually quite short and then they'd probably be less self-conscious about seeming small. I have no evidence for this, it's just a thought experiment.

Following.

I'm definitely interested in hearing some of the commentary on this. I personally don't put too much stock in size in the flaccid state because my own experiences has shown me that while a large flaccid penis is impressive visually, it doesn't equate to a large erect penis and can often be a disappointment. On the other hand I've been pleasantly surprised by men rising to the occasion and growing very large while their flaccid penis is small or average. I tend to recognize testicle size more because there is no mistaking the size of testicles since they are pretty much the same size all the time. Low hanging full balls are much more interesting to me.

On the vintage videos and old black and white pics you ALWAYS always always see lots of beautiful comments from the older men in our country lamenting over the good ole days when "men were men" and while I'm young I have to agree with them every time. Something happened in our country I don't think it's specific because they're are a ton of reasons I could talk about but men are less inclined these days to pal around, the brotherhood of man was strong and less inclined to be self conscious. Nowadays it's so far gone, men analyze their bodies much more like women and are just less inclined to share their nudity. I hung out with eastern europeans, younger guys, they were all shirtless in our home and happy to be so. I sucked one of em off after he and I were alone one day and starting swapping stories. Hot as hell, he was into dominating me, not concerned at all about appearing gay cuz I sucked him off.

I question the "everyone". I agree that everyone here on LPSG does and most gay men do, whether they acknowledge it or not. I really question whether most of the straight world does, particularly anyone who grew up in a time/place that locker rooms, group showers, skinny dipping, etc. are/were not the norm. There've been comments in other threads suggesting that if the only exposure to the male body is porn, professional/olympic athletes, and pop culture advertising people, especially young men, develop a false picture of what is typical.

I'd think that in cultures with more public nudity flaccid size would be looked at like height, natural hair color, natural musculature, etc. And the general perception of what constitutes "normal" would be more realistic. I'd also guess that as a result there'd be more general awareness that flaccid size doesn't tell you much about erect and that neither have much to do with how good a guy is in bed. When I say "more" I mean in comparison to nudity-averse cultures like the USA. And I agree with your assessment by the way.

I think large flaccid size would still be admired over regular sized guys but it would be admired like other physical characteristics. But I think there'd be less concern/worry/negative attention to/about average sized guys.

We had open showers in college and in the morning there might be a dozen or more guys in the shower room with guys going in and out, so during a typical shower, you might see two dozen naked guys. In that environment penis size seems far less of a thing to worry about. Sure, we noticed who had a bigger one or smaller one, but pretty much everyone on the floor was comfortable being naked with the rest of the group in the shower.

And as someone above pointed out, flaccid (soft) penis size has nothing to do with erect penis size. I know guys who have a very small flaccid penis but grow to 6" or so when hard, and I also have seen guys with large flaccid penises who only got hard when they got an erection, but really did not grow very much at all.
