I'd say given that he gave you a reason, (acting all scared and paranoid when you walked in) that you should just tell him. Let him know he gave you a reason (through his actions) and what you found isn't going to fly. Obviously things like that cause major waves in a relationship and he will have to work hard to earn your trust back if you choose to stay with him. Personally, I'd say tell him and then let him go.
