to the Op:

I went through a significant body transformation years ago, going from lean with little muscle to lean with quite a bit of muscle. I put on about 30 lbs of muscle over the course of about 5 years.

There is a clear difference on how I was treated by women before and after. No comparison really. I have never been a womanizer. I have dated very few women as I have always been a '1 women man." But, the way women address me in general was very much improved after the muscle gain.

On a even more obvious front were the looks, comments and getting hit on by gay men. I am 100% straight. However, this has not stopped some men from flirting and hitting on me before they know that i don't roll that way.

Just my own personal experience.

I was always tall and skinny, played sports, could not gain weight. around age 21 I put on a few lbs, and got a pretty physical job. my shoulders broadened out. I had that "V" shape when viewed from behind. I started having more ladies approach me, and I was getting laid more frequently. I was told the broad shoulders and my "little cute" ass intrigued a lot of ladies, and on the other side, I have an abnormally thick cock. my wife said that I turned a lot of ladies heads, and some o fher friends wish their husbands had my body type. now in late 50's I am still toned and trim, no gut. 33 inch waist.

Instead of asking if muscularity bring "more" or "less" opportunities (with women in your case though not in mine), ask whether it brings "better." In that case the answer is definitely yes. A man who's a "6" will likely have as many situations as he can handle if he's going after women (or men) who are 3s or 4s. But a guy who's an 8 to 10 will likely attract not just more but more attractive potential partners. Would you rather date lots of 4s, or a few 9s? Also, keep in mind that muscularity is not the same as aesthetically attractive. I saw a guy with a mad-diesel body yesterday, but he was way too short for that amount of muscle; looked really awkward to my eye. He no doubt gets lots of attention, but how much of it is attraction? An attractive physique should be about balance, symmetry and proportionality suitable to your own body-type, not the shear amount of size you can pack on.

Also sfloyd, remember that as you get into a fitness routine, it's also about planning for what you hope to look and feel like down the road. People think its rational to spend all types of time, energy and money planning their careers, saving for a home, thinking about what type of place they'd like to live, looking out for their families, saving for retirement even in their 20s, etc. But lots of them avoid any consideration of their long-term physical appearance and well-being, the reason why so may of them look and feel like sh-t at ever younger ages. Illness or mishaps can befall anybody at anytime, but do you really want to just sit around and watch yourself rot like so many people do??

It depends on the quality of the people involved, and what an individual finds attractive. Do you really think a muscular man with a dog face is going to be more sought after by attractive women than a man with a handsome face and average body? I did say attractive women not skanky peeps.

I'm one of those girls that LOVE LOVE LOVE big muscles. Broad shoulders, nice pecs, a strong back, and the lower ab V. Makes me squirmy just thinking about it.

Obviously most men aren't bodybuilders and bodybuilders often don't have anything in common with dorky graduate students like me. BUT the more beefy the guy I'm with - the more I salivate.

So don't worry about getting bigger - there's definitely some of us out there who adore it to the point of fetishism.

I think us muscular guys will get noticed more as we tend to stand out among the crowd of normal or out of shape people... but you still ahve to have a personality to get anywhere with a woman unless she is only after your body... and I suppose there are those who are just like some men will fuck a hottie with no brains.

Some bodybuilder are graduate students too ;)
And some guys with muscles have doctorates and what not. Just sayin'.

This is a key point. Getting noticed really depends on to whom you are compared and the viewers overall POV. Some see me as muscular, others (bigger, more massive) see me as skinny. It all depends.
