If anyone has listened to the Tom Lykos radio show, then you're probably aware of what he says about straight single men and women -- that straight, single men are ONLY interested in sex from a woman, and that straight single man wouldn't seek out a woman's company unless he was interested in having sex with her.

And it got me wondering: If you strip sex out of the equation, would straight, single men bother to have anything to do with women at all?

Or is it just that men can't help thinking about sex?

Gay men often have female friends so I don't see it would be any different for straight men if you took sex out of the equation.

I like girls. Nice to look at, nice to touch. And I do really like one girl in particularly and it isn't even about sex. I feel at peace around her, even talking to her. Which I haven't really felt before. And she is just the most certifiably beautiful, incredible icon of a woman and everything I ever dreamed of. And even the things so amazing I didn't dare dream them. Until...now

Hehe but yeah, I would find it hard to hate a woman. I probably love all too easily. But at least I'm not a woman hater/bitter person. I would hope not many straight guys are like that. Kind of defeats the object.

I don't know who Tom Lykos is, but if he seriously believes what he said I wouldn't ever listen to him for anything but amusement or aggravation.

If you strip sex out of the equation, of course single men would still want to have women in their lives. Reasonable and mature single men, that is. Which has nothing to do with the second question. Men cannot help thinking about sex, almost all the time. That doesn't mean that men don't frequently have friendships and professional relationships with women that are fully satisfying without sexual desire.

Tom Lykas is a douchebag. Uninteresting unfunny douchebag.

You can't take sex out of the equation. Women are a pain in the ass to be with a lot of the time but it's coded in my DNA I can't imagine not. Men and women are not compatible in a lot of ways but listen men thinkk about sex a lot so yeah there isthe possibility that we only talk to women if want to have sex with them but listen I want to have sex with every woman in the world so ...I guess ...he's right.

The guy has been married a bunch of times so he doesn't even heed his own advice why anyone would I have no idea. That guys a hack.

Hotmilf listen I'm "talking to you" in a way trying to answer your question and do I want to have sex with you? Of course doesn't mean I can't have a normal conversation.

I have always had female friends. Even my lovers have been my friends. In fact my gf is my best friend.

Women can be frustrating to men, as I am sure men are frustrating to women. A wise friend use to say that women are beasts too, just a different kind of beast. Women and men operate on different social platforms. But it is precisely this mysteriousness of a woman that makes her sexually attractive. I should say that is the combination of similarities along with the differences that make a relationship so fullfilling.

Almost all my close friends are women. Some of them, I have slept with in the past. Some of them, I wanted to sleep with in the past. But I don't want to sleep with any of them now (well, maybe one  ).

I spend a lot more time with my female friends, and there's a lot more variety in what we do (venues, events, etc) than there is with my male friends.

And yes, I'm straight and unmarried.

Agreed. I don't find him interesting at all. His idea of what a man is differs from mine. Maybe I'm just a playa hater.

As for the question, it's not clear cut. Sex has a lot to do with why a single man would want to get to know a woman. If there is some common interest, then it's more likely that he would want to be friends. It's just that men and women are usually interested in different things.

I grew up without a lot of close female friends or relatives, so it's a little hard to separate sex from women now. I wish it weren't that way.

Sex is kind of like the ante in poker, without it there would be less incentive to play the game.

For me, Tom Lykas is like Howard Stern. Some of his stuff I find hilarious and interesting, and some of it just annoys me.

Much of what he says is designed to get strong reactions, such as his comments on religion. I like how he provides information on men getting unfairly treated by women thru court, children, etc., and is not concerned about being politically correct when it comes to relationships between men and women.

However, his stance is very one sided and can be extreme. No, not all straight, single men are only interested in sex with women. I have too many single male friends who tell me everything, sometimes more than I need to know. Many men desire to connect with others, male or female, on different levels the same as women do. I believe it's a matter of learning to communicate in a different way then you do with your girlfriends. Many of my male friends have stated that they love getting a female point of view, and that they appreciate that I don't judge what they share with me, even when they shock the hell out of me! :)

I LOVE women... end of statement!

I dislike some women's attitudes, or their ways, but I , conversely love it when they're catty, or sarcastic, or (dare I say) just plain BITCHY- because I am into women who are NOT girly-girls... I'm into women who aren't afraid to get a little dirty, and aren't TOO prissy.

TBH, practically ALL of my ex GFs as well as my ex-wife were all friends with me first- and on the "Tomboyish" side- they loved to camp (one gf was a hunter!) but filledout evening dresses (or my T-SHIRTS ,,, mee-OW!!) Very well when it was that time.

But most importantly, they were my friends- and , for the most part...STILL are.

I sincerely agree that this Tom Lykas character IS a douchebag.

Nobody's laughing. What you're saying is what I think most men feel about women. And if you haven't had sex, then that's your business. There's no set time to have sex or not. Go at your own speed and when the time is right it will be.

Mr. Leykis is in some interesting company. Who knew he was such a radical feminist?:

All men are rapists and that's all they are. They rape us with their eyes, their laws, and their codes. - Marilyn French

All sex, even consensual sex between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman. -Catharine MacKinnon

I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig... Under patriarchy, every woman's son is her potential betrayer and also the inevitable rapist or exploiter of another woman.-Andrea Dworkin

I feel that 'man-hating' is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them. -Robin Morgan, editor of Ms. Magazine.

To call a man an animal is to flatter him; he's a machine, a walking dildo. -Valerie Solanas

    :wtf1:

If men really only saw women as objects of sex then we'd be selling off our daughters at puberty or killing them outright, divorcing or killing every woman over the age of 30 or 40, and marriage wouldn't exist; we'd just have sexual slavery instead. Women would have no rights at all because they would be chattle. While some patriarchal societies still deny women many rights, and even permit these kinds of atrocities, these horrors are becoming rarer and western culture is light years ahead of many others in this respect.

I am SO tired of being considered a suspected rapist, misogynist, harasser, and pedophile simply because I'm male. This question is about as legitimate as asking if all black people love watermelon. I'd hate to see our society rid itself of one form of sexism only to replace it with another. Sexism diminishes any culture in which it exists.

Do straight men hate women? Sure, some likely do. Do all straight men hate women?

Do all straight women hate men?

I have lived with my wife for nearly 33 years and there were times when 6 months would go by without any sex because she was afraid of the pain, and we are still together, things have improved considerably thankfully. So, yes men can live with women without sex, but we do prefer a sexual relationship.

How about women who are more interested in money than friendship, sex or marriage? Two of my friends wives left them when they no longer held high paying jobs, one for medical reasons and the other because they both wanted to move to a more rural environment. The one friends wife took out a second mortgage without his consent, 27 credit cards that he knew nothing about and she started an offshore bank account that he could not get the divorce judge to investigate, she was making $60,000 a year in an under the table, mostly internet business, she has got half of his retirement and after 5 years he finally might be getting his medical retirement and she has applied for and will get half of that. Meanwhile she married the rich boyfriend that she had an affair with while she was still married to my friend. Women can be such mercenaries.

that is such black and white thinking. so does that mean that the men that dont hate all women are realy bi or gay? and when a guy gets married or has a girlfriend does that mean a magic elf sprinkles pixie dust on them and makes them nice to women? if its only men does that make it start at puberty or legal adult age?

Well, it was women's disinterest in me that made me prefer guys. Not to mention it was their neuroses, their neediness, and over all frustrating behavior that makes me glad I don't date them. It seems to me neo-feminism and the result of placing women as equals in our society have tarnished all that makes a man a man. Making it seem as if we aren't biologically fit to exist. And they're always saying if "women ruled the world there wouldn't be any wars". Bullshit! There'd be a conflict everytime someone'd show up to the same event wearing the same outfit. Every day would be like "Bridezillas Gone Batshit". Have you seen those wild-eyed heifers stampede after a rack full of discounted gown? Scary.
