Poorer childhood nutrition I think.

Poor childhood nutrition stunts their growth.

When people get older the connective tissue between their joints get thinner and they lose maybe an inch in height by the time they are old. Also older people tend to hunch over more so they seem shorter.

Go to a nursing home and see who you see the most of.

I bet you see more short skinny men than tall ones.

More old short drunks compared to old tall drunks.

We all shrink as we become older..taller gets shorter and shorter becomes shorter. Thats the long and short of it i think.

horse poop

great danes, for example are one of the shortest lived breeds of dogs. large size brings a whole set of issues
Thank you for rebringing that up. Comparing seperate species is not very sound, but comparing different breeds of the same species may yeild more accurate results.

I brought it up in my first post in this thread:
I know large breeds of dogs have shorter lives do to this the giant breeds living 7 -10 years) but i don't know if it would hold true for humans, though i would guess the really tall (6'9 and over) may have stressed hearts...

Diet and lifestyle will probably be more the decider. You never see an old obese person.

Rubbish. My Nan made it to 82 and she was obese. She would have lived much longer had it not been for medical error or if she'd had a little more confidence in being actively involved in her own medical care. Her death was nothing to do with obesity, and barring the obesity, she was perfectly healthy.
