I'm watching this part of the interview Joe Rogan had with the CEO of Whole Foods and I just wondered if the problem with American capitalism is that we expect too much from it.
In the video, he's talking about conscious capitalism, how it's win-win-win and great for everyone. It's like he can't just let it be an economic system. It has to be the perfect economic system that benefits everyone and is perfectly moral.
Isn't that a bit much? I like capitalism, but it has flaws just like all systems created by people. It's not moral or immoral, it's just an economic system. To make it out to be anything more than that really puts it under too much stress. I'm sorry Libertarians but capitalism and markets aren't great for everything. Sometimes markets fail and when they do, it strengthens socialist and other anti-capitalist forces. They focus on these failures to discredit capitalism as a whole.
I think capitalists need to be more honest about capitalism, its place in society, and what it is good for. Trying to make it the end all be all of everything just leads to socialism.
What do you guys think? Am I off base?
