Don't eat with your left hand in India. Bad manners.

That hand is reserved for cleaning your asshole after a shit. Sorry to be so crass.

To be honest...when I can, I like to eat with my hands. One meal lately I like to eat with my hands are scrambled eggs w/ bacon scrambled in. Of course, I do this when I'm alone though.

I eat with whatever is appropriate. Sushi? Hands. Rice? Fork or hands, depending if it's sticky rice. I have done the pizza with fork and knife. Lame. Hands is the best way to go for alot of foods.

Last week got some real Chinese food in San Francisco. Not where Americans go. Where Chinese go. Line out the door. Crispy fried 5 spice chicken and fried sticky rice. Ate it all with my hands. It was food porn. Even had some leftover fried rice for breakfast with Sriracha hot sauce. Had to use a fork then. Best damn breakfast I have had in a longtime. Best chicken ever. They have crispy whole duck, chicken and numerous pig parts diplayed in the window and it's all chopped to order.

Try this place and the Chinese restaurant down the street serving sweet'n sour chicken will be worthless to you. I ate recently at some places I used to think were good and now my opinion is changed... or maybe it's all in the hands? Never seen sticky fried rice before. Now I am hooked.

I'll give a link for anyone interested if they are in the area.

In pretty much all eastern and African lands you don't offer or accept food with the left hand. But westerners are always given a pass. Personally I've never heard of anyone being reprimanded for using the left accept by other westerners! People from Asia are too polite to say anything to your face about it.

in my culture it's common to eat with your hands. parents usually teach their children to feed themselves with their hands b/c it helps them become more independent, etc. kind of like finger-foods in a way.

i still eat with my hands till this day too. if i don't have to use a fork and spoon i won't.

once when my S.O. had dinner with my parents he was trying to be all formal with a fork and knife. my dad just stopped him and said, "it's fine to eat with your hands at our table."

That's probably the first time I felt completely comfortable around your parents lol. It also helped that I had a beer or two in me to take the edge off. I was a little nervous before that!

Depends what I'm eating. Normal dinner would be knife and fork.

But a portion of chips or a panini would be fingers.

I do! And I wash them first! :biggrin1:
Ever since I came from The Middle East I have been avoiding forks and knives as much as I can. So I went out with my friends to dinner some time ago, we were at this fancy restaurant and I was eating with my hands! You don`t eat with your hands in Serbian`s restaurants, you eat using forks and knives. My friends are used me dipping in their plates, but when I turned around I saw people staring at me.

I eat a lot of food with my hands, mainly at home where I even grab a handful of pasta and eat it with my hands and I can grab the white edges of a fried egg and lower it into my mouth, it even tastes better that way:smile:!!

Some things I need a fork (or chopsticks) some things I need my hands. I'll never forget the guy who took me out for burgers and beer, and ate with knife and fork. He joked that I was uncivilized. My grandmother did teach me to always use utensils in public. Still, I'm never going to eat a burger that way. Unless it is falling apart, I eat all sandwiches with my hands (and refrain from ordering what I consider finger foods in fancy-pants places with more than one fork laid out).

Food is for sharing, especially when dining out. Luka, you could dip your bread in my sauces if we were at the same table.
