I live in an Orange County burb in CA, so it's typical Southern California business, nobody says hello to anybody, and it's been the same people for decades. Fine with me....the house next door has a large Asian family that recently bought it, and the matriarch is extremely unfriendly. If a leaf blows off a tree in my yard, she'll pick it up and throw it vindictively back over onto my yard. They don't cook in their kitchen, the cook in a wok between the houses all hours of the day, and it gets LOUD and SMELLY. I use the den as an office, and their little wok-fest is right outside that window.

Some of their grown kids live there, which is fine, I moved back home to help keep the place maintained, until I move out of state. The house is the family house and will always be that way. But they have a toddler-aged grandchild there, and his screaming is constant and ear peircing.

All said, this is better than when I rented a house on a cul-de-sac in a huge masterplanned community, where everyone else's kid on that street ran wild, including putting a ladder up against the house to climb onto my roof.:mad:

And THAT was better than the apartment I lived in before that, with the wife-beating psycho that lived downstairs.

edit...oh, I forgot the courtyard apartment I lived in in Laguna. Charming little place. We were all nuts. Lovely place, it was open to the street and looked out on the beach, but every apartment was full of loud partiers, drunks, potheads or tweakers. I don't think there was a sober apartment in the entire place. I wasn't sober at the time, so I didn't mind, but if I lived there today.... :frown1: Not that I find it a threat, it's more of a complete annoyance.

Besides, tweakers suck.

Well, anyways. I started to feak out and I ran upstairs to get a window to look down at the street. Because, it was not coming from the usual area, next door.." But, somewhere!!??!! I looked out and dude that used to live next door was driving back out of the area and then turned the corner in his car. But, yet you could hear this LOUD as hell music at 2 am from is car! I'm in Southern California right now, DGirl, but my goal is to get back to Hawaii, and live upcountry in Maui. I've been away for a couple years, but I still have my Hawaii Drivers License. One thing I remember was (in city limits no less) the crowing of roosters, since cockfighting is popular there, even tho it's illegal. Also, crime rate is pretty high, thanks to the scourge of "ice". I assume that you are living in Pearl City, Schofield Barracks or Kaneohe...? As much as I love the locale and the geography there, culturally, it's a little on the needy side.

How's that SuperFerry working out?

No we live in the area near the Pearl harbor base.." Where you will see the BIG nex, the open to the public food court..."
The Superferry, NOT sure.." I only rode on it ONCE with the hubby.." It was a Navy trip..." Then those dumb asses that took our pictures chose the White couples and Familys to put in the News paper and also the T.V! Why even get me all excited with taking me and hubby's photo if we were not even going to make the paper?? LOL!! I was telling everyone at work about the trip then when I seen I was no where in the paper!! What a heartbreak .
But, if you ever come down here to my area, PM me!!! But, tell ya what, we may get Cali or go back to Japan. We won't know until he picks orders next year/ year 1/2..."

does a neighbor who lets her 2 yappy-ass dogs out at all hours of the night classify as crazy??

I'm afraid I'd have to move. I'd lose my mind at your place. Any kind of "non-stop" noise sets me on edge. Motors running, dogs barking...you get my drift?

My neighbour is a 60 something man, when I first moved here, he knocked on my kitchen window and told me I had a leak. Then he introduced himself. I was warned about him by the previous resident, so I was polite but restrained myself from being overly familiar. After this he started to ring my doorbell, maybe once every two weeks, to try to involve me in local issues. I expressed a mild interest, but my job involves unsocial hours, so I had to make my excuses (honestly).

Then the dinner invitations started to come, again, I rarely get a chance to have an evening free, especially at weekends, so I would reply with a handwritten note, apologising and expressing my thanks.

This went on for around 6 months, then one day he rang my bell, and after answering the door he told me he had a ticked to Dominica going free, and would I like to have it!!! (For real).

I said no thankyou, as I felt that this was way too much from a man I hardly knew, (ain't this an obvious reaction), and that I felt that he must know someone who was much more deserving of this ticket/holiday. (I forgot to mention the man is very well off).

A week after this, I was walking to the supermarket, and he appeared out of nowhere and again offered me a ticket to Dominica, plus all expenses paid. Again, I politely refused (I was very gentle btw, not at all rude).
But I was getting a bit creeped out by this point. As I left the supermarket, I found him waiting by the exit, where he told me that he was 'in love' with me, and that I was 'the most dearthly handsome man he had ever seen'.

At this point, I must admit I lost some patience and told him that his behaviour was most definitely upsetting me and perhaps it would be best if he just left me to get on with my life!!

2 weeks later I came home to find my garden (which I take some pride in) had been, well, destroyed. The rose bushes had been uprooted, the drainage pipe smashed, the trellis ripped down, earth and shrubs uprooted and flung all over the lawn. Terracotta pots smashed, and garden waste strewn from the bin all over the shop!!!

My neighbours told me that they had seen this guy (the neighbour in love with me) in full flow rampaging through my garden, had leant over the garden fence to ask what he was doing and he had ran off.

At this point, I got angry. Really fucking fucking FUCKING PISSED! I went around and for the first time banged on his door.....no answer. I left him a note and told him that if he didn't leave me be, I would involve the police.

The next day I awoke to find that he had dumped about 10 garbage bags (emptied) all over my car. Now, I didn't see him do this, but it was pretty obvious who it was. What had I done to deserve this? Had I hurt him deliberately? I mean, I didn't even know this guy, this much respected 'pillar' of the local community.

So, I went outside, cleared up all his shit from the car bay, and the car! Then, I went over to his, and calmly in broad daylight dumped all his shit back over the front step and window boxes of his Hotel. Then I called the Police.

This was 2 years ago....all is quiet on the Western front, as the Police told him that if he bothered me in any way again, he would be arrested and charged with stalking.

I still see him from time to time, and he hates me. Which is fine, I can live with that, but what freaks me out is that here is a guy who I never even knew, and he feels that I did him wrong somehow, and that he still lives next door to me. (Distant pyscho threads shrill......).

So much for 'love thy neighbour' eh!!

i've always had loud neighbors except for one family who moved away a few years ago. growing up, my neighbors to my left had like 3 families living in their 3 bed/2 bath house. not to mention relatives and friends dropping in all the friggin time. it was annoying as hell and totally disrespectful, especially when they used to park in my drive way and i couldn't play in my own yard. after they moved the next family who moved in were nice and quiet. and after they left the new family who moved in were even nicer and quieter.

all of the neighbors to the right have always been loud. i think the neighbors i have right now have been the loudest though. they have 3 small children, ages 2, 4, and 5, and those kids can not stop making noise. even in the middle of the night i can hear them crying and it's the reason i have to sleep with my window closed.
