How lovely, pandora.... my doves are all too ready to breed. I need to keep throwing out their eggs! In east Asia they are a delicacy but I am loathe to eat a fertilised egg for some reason, when I know the parents.

The neighbors have pet chickens. Our zoning allows for three within city limits. One of the other neighbors complains that it's getting 'third world' around here, as if that is a bad thing...

Do you replace the eggs with plastic ones?

Haha, Canary and Finch eggs are so tiny, you could never use them for eating or even cook them. I think the shell would burst when cooking.
I feel the same way about eating fertilized eggs. Even when I buy eggs and open them and say they are fertilized......I can not eat them.

As much as I like doves and chickens, I think they are very different than canaries or other "normal" pet birds though.

I don't quite understand why your neighbour thinks chickens mean third world, cause everybody there has dogs too
I live in a very small german town (a one cow village you could say) and we have lots of farms here. So chickens, cows or pigs are normal.

They simply lay eggs all their lives, as part of their good health. I don't need to replace them. They need calcium gravel in fact.

In some parts of the USA pet pigs and chickens are the new fashion.

I have one black cat called Baby, she's lovely.

My boyfriend has 2 cats - Tamsin and Jasmine, and a dog - Emma.

Yep. We have pets and love them all. I got involved in rescue a few years ago, so...we have more than a few dogs and cats right now. I refuse to count :) And it seems I cannot let go either.
