Do you "judge" people based on their political views?

I see it alot, "fuck colbert that liberal" "james woods is a right wing nut" "im boycotting (insert name) because of (insert political stance)."

so you/they essentially we throw away these celebs or those you know in person because of a little political difference-eliminating a quality person or entertainer because you disagree with something that is opinion; irrelevant to their worth! Why do this? such a shame.

"Throw away"? "Eliminate"?

I must have missed something.

I try not to let the political view be an issue when I'm watching a celebrity / actor / spokesperson who has expressed views I disagree with. I think Jon Voight has been a great actor since he broke on the scene with "Midnight Cowboy." He's politically a right wing semi-crazy, racist birther politically. I try not to let his views take away from his performances. I find scientology to be an intolerable con job posing as religious beliefs. but I still watch Tom Cruise movies. I have however jettisoned my Bill Cosby long playing albums from my childhood as well as all of my Michael Jackson records / tapes / CD's. Crimes against people are just something I have no desire or ability to be able to separate from a public persona.

In those cases, I feel about the same. But I still listen to classical music CDs conducted by James Levine, Charles Dutoit, and Daniele Gatti, even though all three were accused of sexual misconduct as part of the #MeToo movement.

I think it makes a difference what art form we're talking about. With actors and singers, we feel we're interacting with them intimately, as people, in a way we don't with, say, conductors and instrumentalists.

Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are both Republicans, doesn't stop me from enjoying their work.

Jenny McCarthy, on the other hand, is such an anti-vax nutjob that I can't stand to see her on TV.

I do have a hierarchical view of the respectability of various ideological alignments. Naturally that's going to play a role in my forming impressions of individuals.

Political views are an opinion. They are not something people are born with and are unable to change. I think it is perfectly fair to judge people based on their opinions, whether positively or negatively.

I don't care so much about the celebrity aspect of the question. If a performer has a political view and grandstands about it to a point that it distracts from their performance (assuming that is not their performance, itself) then I probably won't be too interested in their performance. I'd like it more if it aligns with my views, but its annoying either way.

If a performer has a view that I find hateful or offensive, then I choose not to support them and will not watch their performance. Ideally, I would not like people that I find hateful or offensive to have a platform so I would rather not contribute to their platform in anyway. However, there are very few performers I can think of that fit into this category.
