I generally find the employment I've had is a fair contribution to society in itself. Most of my current work involves service improvement for government, some for private industry.

Just this year I've been fortunate enough to add my small contributions to the justice and health infrastructures to mention some. I can say that someone in a country area got their required medicine faster and someone charged with a crime got better access to information because of me. That is a wonderful feeling.

I must admit, I wish I had time to do more volunteer work. I used to do a mentoring program for highschool kids while I was at university, getting back into something like that would be great.

Of course I owe society something. And the country I'm in.

But I'm thinking more and more about switching countries, because I'm receiving second-class citizenship for my "single"-category (35%) income tax, hours of volunteer work, and years of helping others.

Not that I expected anything in return for the volunteer work or the time spent helping others, but the income tax? Oh yeah. I expected a LOT better handling of my money....

My contributions come and go. Right now I'm unemployed, so I am more of a taker. When I'm working, I probably break even or maybe a bit on the giver side.

Someone above mentioned charity races. I used to be a competitive race walker, and I did a lot of charity races in the "walk" category. That actually works as taking and giving at the same time. You are donating to the charity, but are also getting the exercise (which I am a "social exerciser" and probably wouldn't be motivated to do otherwise) and some connections with fellow racers.

Even now being unemployed, I have donated a little to a friend who was in the Leukemia Society's Team in Training. I couldn't donate much because I have to be really careful with the budget right now, but I managed a little (but I'll admit that in this case was a bit of a "taker" too because it was an event she had where you had to donate to get admission. But hey, I went.)

I also used to (when I was working) donate to the American Lung Association, as both of my parents have emphysema.

I recycle too. Not as much as I used to because I don't know where the recycling centers are here.

Society Owes me 10 fold.

It's piss poor hospital workers and arrogant doctors that took my fathers life.

It's arrogant police officers that have "Superpowers" above every other individual in their community, and treat them as such.

Its a corrupt legal system that has nearly bankrupted myself and my family due to lack of protection from fraud, misrepresentation, malpractice, and good ol general corruption.

I've given people money begging me for a $5.00 to buy gasoline for their out of gas car, only for them to take and turn away and buy cigarettes instead.

I've had police take my fireworks away, and watch as they used them for their own personal enjoyment.

My childhood, young adult life, and early adulthood has been permanently stripped of enjoyment, and I continue to give and shell out more and more.

I've been denied to play sports activities in school because I was "Different"

I don't owe anything to society.

- Healthcare provider in my local community often noted for really listening to my patients to figure out their needs
- Medical Relief work in India and the Philipines
- Work with local youth groups
- Donated to local charities
- Currently considering applying to a joint law and masters of social work program so that I can help out those without resources
- My current concern is how public services accessiblity for the mentally ill will be effected by the Virgina Tech tragedy

. . . too bad I haven't yet been able to give up my car or eating meat, but obviously I'll never be an angel anyway.

Before the modern nanny-staters, we had prohibitionists of one sort or another. I'm sure they were convinced that they were "doing good" as well. But all they did was ensure that the road to hell had plenty of paving stones.

The road to hell......does it end in America? I heard they are looking for a Devil BD?  Nothing would be done without intentions good or bad the outcome. Some do gooders did do good. I've been to places where people have left things worse than how they found it. That's hell, the paving stones are gone too.

Despite my hatred for stupid people in large groups I haven't killed anyone ...yet. Is that good enough?

Get back to me after you've killed your first.

To the members here I hope that I am contributing toward their ability to think critically, maintain a healthy level of skepticism, and at the same time keep an open mind about everything while never losing the capacity to laugh at life's many absurdities.

That sounds like it was cut from some valedictorian's speech. Boy, if I read that out of context I would never think this was a place for perverts into big dicks. It actually sounds poetic. I think you are more than breaking even here NIC.

I pleasure it with my presence.

I was hoping you could have been a little more crass and said "pleasure it with my dick."
