All I can say after reading Monster's reply is "sigh..."
I always wonder how much folks think through the copycat argument before they try using it.
If what you say were true, Monster, I would be straight, blowing up cars or buildings, raping people, murdering others, and saving the planet from alien attacks. Because that's what I see people do in movies. But even a steady childhood diet of heterosexual TV and movies did nothing to make me straight (or even want to be). Movies about violence do not make me want to go out and be violent. If I saw a film in which someone jumped off a bridge I would not go and jump off a bridge too.
I'm sure there is a SMALL percentage of the population that would imitate what they saw on film. But the majority is smart enough to think autonomously about dangerous things and refrain from doing them. Sorry, but the copycat argument is a weak one.
Invisibleman... I see you've bought all the propaganda. I hope it fits. Your initial argument about food preparers and surgeons is also unbelievably weak. Bad analogies, actually.
For what it's worth, I'm pushing for a voluntary consensus within the BB porn industry to hire only HIV+ performers so as to reduce dramatically the potential for new transmissions on set. I agree that some directors have been acting irresponsibly - especially those who make bareback twink videos (and you know who you are...). So I am hoping more studios will take the advice and do their part to minimize the risks to their performers.
It's big hearted of you to care so deeply for the welfare of porn performers. But also keep in mind that they are adults and capable of making their own decisions. Just as there are risks in being a coal miner or a lion tamer, so there are risks with being in porn. Everyone goes into the sex business - whether as a hooker or a porn actor - of their own free will. Many guys who end up in porn start out as hookers. If they've been awake for the last 25+ years they know that the risk for contracting HIV is everywhere in the sex business.
I admnire your passion, but really... the idea of lawsuits against porn companies is a bit extremist. I hope you have found something you can control. Sounds like you need it.
