America has a shameful maternal death rate for a first world country.

Our society is founded on/government being over run by a book that considers women property and breeding stock.

Also a pitiful conviction rate on sexual assault and domestic violence.

With the current political climate I wouldn't be at all shocked to see America moving up the list.

The most dangerous countries to be a woman, mapped

USA the tenth most dangerous country for women?? Not great company in that list.

I don't believe it. That is a wide net they're using, and for sure the USA has prevalent problems with the issues they're tracking, but I cannot trust the accuracy of such a list that does not have China near the top.

Good luck even getting born as a female in China, let alone treated equitably. Women are getting kidnapped in China and adjacent countries to be forced into marriage, it's one of the top countries for human slavery, etc etc.

I don’t believe it. The article says: “The inclusion of the US as the 10th most dangerous place in the world for women is a surprise for experts. The #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns against sexual harassment and violence put the only western country on the list.”

That's a weak reason and I think it’s on the list to generate publicity and controversy.

I hope this is not true, but then we have the American Evangelical Taliban doing their best—with their purchased messiah—to destroy rights and health care for women. Let us not forget this is done “in the name of God”.

The story smacks of sensationalism for the sake of sensationalism. It may even be an example of "fake news".

The story doesn't truly identify the study, nor the researchers, nor their sponsor. It doesn't describe the methodology of the study, nor the criteria used to establish the rankings, although it does make an imprecise reference to "550 experts on women’s issues".

I am intrigued by the comment,
"The inclusion of the US as the 10th most dangerous place in the world for women is a surprise for experts.
The #MeToo and Time’s Up campaigns against sexual harassment and violence put the only western country on the list."

In other words, the U.S. landed on the list because it is one of the few countries where such things can be voiced and discussed in public! In many countries, the attitude of "blame the victim" is so firmly entrenched that anybody participating in "#MeToo" would be publicly shamed into silence.

I am NOT suggesting that the U.S. is the most favorable place to be female. We are still working to bring some long-standing laws and ideals into practice. But putting the U.S. right behind Nigeria suggests that somebody, who wants support for some pet agenda, either stuffed the ballot box or hired a Kangaroo Court.

If you asked this question last year I would say no. How ever the world is changing. I am A first responder, I love my job. I am blessed to get up every morning I work. I think the world is just as dangerous for some men as it is woman. Especially with this nut job living in Washington, the Saga never ends. Overdoses - guns - walls - weather....
Blah blah blah
Better or worse I know as a female I don’t have to look far to see someone else in a worse situation.

"The report was based on a survey of 550 experts on women’s issues who found that the country is the worst nation in terms of sexual violence against women, human trafficking for domestic work, forced labour, forced marriage and sexual slavery.

The poll was conducted between March and May with experts from Europe, Africa, the Americas, South East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific.

Respondents included aid professionals, academics, healthcare staff, non-government organisation workers, policy-makers, development specialists and social commentators."

Short of listing all 550 people, this is what you get. Mr. Trump is roundly despised by this sector, so I'm sure this is a factor as well as some outrage that a country that should be one of the best places in the world for women to live, clearly isn't. If it was a study showing failure to achieve expectation, you would be No.1. Perhaps that is the point.

That's a good point. I was about to post that this obvi isn't a scientific study and comparing kidnap/rape to being catcalled is not apples to apples, but your failure to meet expectations comment is dead on. Thanks for your perspective.

Female bodybuilder is accused of spreading pornographic content online by Chinese police after posting a video of her posing in bikini
  • China-born bodybuilder Lara Zhang was showcasing her training progress
  • But her short video was deemed 'pornographic' and 'obscene' by web police
  • Police said she had broken the law and would be subject to legal punishment
  • Incident caused a backlash and police had reportedly apologised to Ms Zhang

I don't get why the inclusion of the US was a “surprise” for experts if the report was based on a poll of those experts? It's quite badly reported. Here's the actual poll The world’s five most dangerous countries for women 2018 and the entry on USA The world’s five most dangerous countries for women 2018

It seems USA was ranked 3= for sexual violence and 6 for non-sexual violence against women but did not feature in the other categories polled.

Points to consider in USA (and other countries I'm sure) not all rapes are reported. Underground human trafficking is only reporting what we are aware of... the extent of human trafficking is probably far greater than we consider. As @Tight_N_Juicy noted, we may be even higher up on the list given all the unknowns. I wouldn't be surprised.

I agree with @MickeyLee comments. Our culture has been slow to change and there are many areas of our country where misogyny is rampant.

Education at early ages is one of the most effective ways to create change. Teaching girls early on how to protect themselves and how to value themselves is critical. also the whole concept of what it means to be a "real man" needs to be evaluated.
IMO, If we could teach kindness without regard to personal gain, future generations might have a fighting chance.

Listening to Don on the Bus. I think being #10 is being "conservative".

To be honest, I've worked in the building game since 14. I tune out to fuckwits like that. I grew up with 3 Sisters, Brother, Mum and Dad.

Don sounds like he grew up in a litter. And yeah, I can be crass at times. But lying arseholes I see through in an instant.

The Earth revolves around the Sun, part of a solar system, part of a galaxy, part of a Universe. This is truth.

Does not seem that humans follow the natural course. Challenging nature, working with it benefits us all.

Working against it, attempting to defeat it....well
