Once again then I have to ask, why did you choose to be straight?

Clearly you must have seen at least some men who made your heart jump when you saw them; men you fantasized about, men you thought of while masturbating, guys who made you hard just thinking about them, asses you thought of fucking, cocks you thought of taking?

There must have been women who made you feel the same way yet at one point you decided not to feel sexually attracted to men and chose only women for your desires. You just switched-off your homosexual attractions and decided to be heterosexual.

Please tell us how you did that and when it occurred.

I don't know if there is or isn't a gay gene, but I think it's a mistake to try to find one. If it exists it will be a gene that's found in a minority of men and therefore there will be a tendency to see it as an 'aberration' of some sort, something that's not 'normal' and it will give the people who are homophobic an extra weapon.

That's very true because so many people are not educated or humane enough to think otherwise. As the saying goes,

"A 'little' knowledge can be a dangerous thing."

Homosexuality, Bisexuality, etc...is ingrained into person's psyche, but I wouldn't say there's a gene for it. It's like how you have a bunch of kids and they all have different personalities, but were all raised the same way. There is no gene for personality, but it exists. Just like homosexuality, bisexuality, etc. exists, I guess.

Yeh for sure:confused::eek::confused: And you are 100% straight just by choice?

No, animals are straight by nature and nuture. The whole point of survival is to reproduce and pass on your genes, us being animals meaning it's not a choice.

If there was a gay gene, it would obviously be mutated.

That's true, because there isn't one. Again, nuture not nature.
Natural instinct is of course hetrosexuality...

Totally wrong, frizzle. There are species that have asexual members, such as drone bees...
Also, there are over a thousand species we know of that exhibit some percentage of homosexuality in their population.

Don't mind him dong20.

I disagree that we shouldn't try to find it.

I believe people who blatantly hate homosexuals will hate them with or without genetics to "back up" their hate. They don't really need an "extra weapon".

Instead, I see finding "the" gay gene as exceedingly important. Certainly, it will justify those who currently believe that there is as much choice in sexuality as there is in gender or skin tone.

However, in addition to that, it will give those people who do not want to be homosexual an option to actually stop being homosexual. Personally, I'd prefer they be able to physically change themselves into heterosexuals than end up becoming the bigots (or worse, pedophiles) many of them seem to become (I'm thinking of certain clergy and congressmen here).

That said, it would equally give heterosexuals who want to be homosexual that option. That might seem like a completely off-the-wall statement at this point in time given our current social atmosphere, but I see no reason why it wouldn't become a reality in the future. After all, we have fairly well developed surgeries and treatments for transsexuals now. And I have to say, having gay friends and hanging out in West Hollywood from time to time, they certainly seem to have a lot of fun. :)

I do agree, however, that if we gained the ability to genetically change someone to be heterosexual from homosexual or vise-versa, it does open up a huge ethical dilemma of whether or not it's morally responsible to do so. It also holds the danger that some hate-driven policies might try to eliminate homosexuality all together by forcing homosexuals to be genetically altered into heterosexuals.

That said, I don't see these dangers as inherent in the discovery.

What I do believe, however, is that the discovery of the "gay gene" is inevitable, and that we will face those dangers whether we want to or not. Given that, I think it's all the more important we consider the ethical issues that will arise when that does happen ahead of time. I'm sure there are a lot of other moral fabric type issues that are related to it that I'm not coming up with here, but it's food for thought, I think.

Dong, here is a link from the first article that answers frizzle's question even more directly: Against nature (3)

If downs syndrome is caused by a faulty gene, so could homosexuality. Just because some warped, disfunctioning bats like to play hide the sausage with a same member sex doesn't mean it's natural.
