I would like to know what this sentence mean:
Merde!! Putain de ta race!! vive le NAME........
Shit!! You disgrace (literally, 'whore') to your race!! Long live NAME....
I'm presuming that NAME is an acronym of some (really pleasant-sounding ) organization.
Them's fightin' woids. Someone's pissed.
alex? Is that a native Frenchman writing that do you think?:33:
Did you receive that in a PM? If you need any help for a reply just ask!
I think it's.... *wonders for a moment how to word this politely* ... a certain genre of young, ill-educated French speaker. The phrase "putain de ta race", along with similar expressions like "enculé de ta race" have become pretty popular slang amongst "that sort" :biggrin1: in recent years, and perhaps can even be fairly translated as "mother fucker!", or something along those lines, since they've transcended the standard racial connotations of the terms involved.
Yipes! I just had a look and there's even a lengthy discussion of the phenomenon at Wikipedia:
As for what "le NAME" might be... google yielded no obvious possibilities as an acronym when I looked earlier; it might just be a local gang, or something like that, I could imagine.
Closet snob.
I just freaking love your answer. Thanks that makes perfect sense.
Merci mille fois pour ton gentil assistance (comme toujours).
For some reason as I sit in my setting of New England splendor entirely out of the French "loop" as it were I imagine people still call footwear "souliers".
Don't do awfully well with changes or "evolution" to language as you know.
I'm taking french II this year, maybe I'll say that to the teacher and see what he says!
I think the OP might have just been subbing out a real name with "NAME"
damn dirty frogs
Well, I knew what "putain" meant "whore".
One guess why.
Where did you see that phrase lvted?
First of all, thanks Alex8 for the translation. thx dude.. besides, u look great in ur pic.. :biggrin1: Does that necessary to be "Whore"? There was another person said that it means "whore"??
Thanks Dongalong for your concern. I'm alright..
Yeah.. the "NAME" is my friend's name... sorry for making it confusing..
Thanks to you guys.. actually, it goes like this.... (well, i hope u wont say boring.. )
Actually my friend is having some relationship problem with his girlfriend. When we ask him how was it recently... He didnt want to say anything.. but, i saw this Sentence in his MSN nick. That's why I am wondering and ask for translation.. :biggrin1:
u guys must be.. "Ooo..ic...."
As I suggested later on, "Mother fucker!" might be a more apt translation... the point is just that 'putain' literally means 'whore', not that this would necessarily be the best way to translate it idiomatically.
So, basically it can be 3 meaning
1) Shit, u disgrace to your race!! long live "ppl name"
2) Shit, u being a whore and disgrace your race.........
3) shit, u mother fucker... long live.........
But u think most probably will be the 3rd one..?
If you take the words literally, it would be (2). Nobody would translate it this way idiomatically.
Traditionally, it would be (1).
But in current French "street speak", which is undoubtedly what we're dealing with here, (3) is the best translation.
Damn, that made my nipples hard.
thanks mate.... muaks.. lol..
by the way, is it you in the display picture?
Since I am a French>English translator, I feel obliged to put in my two cents.
putain de ta race = your fuckin'/bloody/goddamn race (breed of people)
You need to translate ta (your).
Two possible translations:
Shit! Your fuckin' race. Forever Le Name
Shit! Your goddamn race. Live on Le Name
I'm not quite sure what Le Name is. It's probably the name of some street gang in France. Allez savoir!
Although reading the posts in a thread is always optional, doing so would have answered the questions you had.
The girl I just got myself off over is French...there must be a day when we will get it together...Anyway, that's quite funny. I don't know any slang, just traditional, regular bits and pieces. Although the word going round school was 'encule le poulet' or fuck the chicken...I only realised what it meant when I asked my French ange...
