I am shocked and disgusted with any and every "they had it coming" attitude.

BULL FUCKING SHIT.

Innocent bystanders in ANY nation, and under ANY circumstances never "had it coming" -- and that includes the people in the Twin Towers, the firefighters who gave their lives, the military who are doing their duty, and the poor Iraqis who never had a fucking choice let alone any fucking chance.

NOBODY EVER "HAD IT COMING."

There are a lot of evil people in this world, including the assholes in Afghanistan who yesterday shot a teenage teacher for the crime of teaching English -- the same subject I teach through my writings.

BULL FUCKING SHIT.

Yes, this is the same kind of mentality used when a woman is raped...she must have had it coming...just look at those stilettos, she must be a whore. No one ever has anything coming, evil is just plain evil.

There are many many muslims who are as good people as you HM, Freddie and JustAsking. They would be as equally horrified by this and many other atrocities that are an abomination of Islam.

Of course I am just shocked at how easily people are capable of losing their humanity.

To the OP: Hard to say. If "shocking" is (as dictionary.com defines it) a "sudden or violent distrubance of the mind, emotions, or sensibilities" then, yes, I've had plenty of shocking moments and will have plenty more.

On the other hand, the same "shocks" have prepared me to expect anything, so the "shock" doesn't last long after the initial occurance. "Shocking" things are thus easier to accept, but are no less predictable.

Nobody said that the innocent people had it coming. We, as a nation, had it coming. Keep poking a dog over and over and see if it doesnt bite you....hell...when someone fucks with animals at the zoo and then get attacked...nobody is shocked by that?..you would say...dumbass had it coming for fucking with the animal...

Nobody said that the innocent people had it coming.

Some have said that, though. So when other people start making similar arguments, even if they don't say exactly the same thing, others can become emotional.

Also, regardless of what the US has done, the attacks of 9/11 were in no way justifiable. I think what you are saying is that it could have been anticipated, but saying that "we had it coming" also implies that maybe the attacks were justified. You could argue that we "deserved" it for not being more sensitive or intelligent in our foreign policy decisions... but this is a really fine line.

I hear ya, but I don't think any "nation" ever had it coming either.

So I'm going to have to agree to disagree.

The nation of Iraqi doesn't deserve what it's getting. The nation of U.S.A. didn't deserve it. Cuba NEVER deserved it. On and on and on.

There are (a) evil ideologies, and (b) evil people. And the well-intended rest of us have to suffer.

I don't have a solution for it.

But I do what I do because I believe that the Printing Press was the greatest invention in the world (the Internet was a close second) -- and I believe that the more that people can connect to each other in a common language = less killing.

Well said.

Unfortunately, like all great inventions, it ends up being used for evil just as ably as it is for good.:frown1:

Well I have to agree that nowadays I find good manners to be quite a shocking surprise but I also have to confess that I have been shocked by some things I have read here at LPSG about some people's sexual fantasies ... I had thought I was unshockable but apparently not ...
